Create DVD DL in VSX3 & VSX4 Problem

Post by phmetzger »

Hi,

I have been creating DVDs using DL media for several years with great success until recently when my DVD writer failed. I replaced the writer with a Samsung "TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202N". Now I am able to create DVDs using single layer media with no problems. But DVDs using DL media directly from VS do not work on a DVD player connected to my TV. If I use VS to create DVD folders or ISO image and then write to DVD DL media using ROXIO and/or ImgBurn S/W, the DVD is recognized by my DVD Player/TV combination.

It seems like VSX3 and VSX4 have a compatibility problem with my new DVD writer. I have tried reloading VSX4 with no change. My OS is Windows XP SP3 Home.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I would suggest you already have your solution - for many years now I have been creating DVD folders in VideoStudio and then burning those folders to blank disc using Roxio.

I do that not because my DVD burner does not produce playable discs but because to me that is a sensible way to do it - first it splits the operation in VS into smaller segments that does not tie up my computer for ages - secondly because I can then play those folders in WinDVD , this shows me all is well with the project as a DVD - and thirdly I can then burn as many copies of the video as I want - even days or weeks later because I just have to find the folders and burn. In fact because all the folders are on my NAS I can burn DVD's from any computer that is on my network as long as it has Roxio on it - the burning computer does not have to be powerful enough for video editing - so any of the older computers does it while I work away on the main PC.

Just carry on with what your doing now.

Thanks BrianCee,

I agree with what you are saying. My concern is that I am losing something that has worked before without any explanation. I found using VS to go directly to the DVD a good, convenient and quick way to make a video that did not have a menu. And writing to DVD folders/ISO files a good way to validate a DVD before actually burning a blank media. I, like many people, do not like forced change.

Hopefully someone can provide a more technical solution.

Thanks

Well your other conclusion -- that your new writer and VS are not fully compatible -- is probably true. But I don't think there is a technical solution to that unless there is a firmware update for the writer which might make it so. Sometimes a DirectX update might helpt too. There is a sticky post at the top of this forum about that.
