Then you seem to indicate that you are able to encode the videos—I assume without crashes?

It will encode from raw to m2t first time around. But, VS4 wont smart render the first generation m2t files when they're joined with previously rendered m2t files (as outlined above). But I've found a work around for this now and it no longer an issue for me. However, This is a seperate problem to the stuttering video ouput that I'm now getting.

I have access to a total of nine computer systems (small mastering and recording studio - so well versed in audio applications) VS4 acts the same on all these systems. I've got desperate and bought a copy of Cyberlink PD and have downloaded a trial of Adobe Elements. If the files jerk and stutter after being rendered in both these programs, then I need to take a look at what the Samsung is doing.

Samsungs own software rencodes every time, its woefully poor, the Samsung raw files will play back in every AV player I've tried including my TV via an SD card. I've noted that VS4 doesnt like a few of the Samsung and some Sony files and this could be were the problem lies.

i.e the Software is fine, but like I said in my previous thread - I wish there could be some universal HD standard :(

Well, I dont really know whats going on. But I installed Cyberlink PowerDirector and it encoded all the video with no judder or any other visual noise. I decided to really try it out and placed the following scenes in the timeline :

A Nokia MP4 video from a Nokia phone (29 fps) at 640 x 352
A .mov video from an ipod touch (same as iphone ) (30 fps) 1280 x 720
Another .Mov from a Canon compact digital camera (23 fps) 1280 x 720

and ( drum roll)

A clip from the Samsung.

I encoded the lot as both a transport stream and mp4 ( all 1080 HD)

VS4 : When it didnt crash, was juddery on the Nokia and Ipod clips, but Ok (ish) on the Samsung and Canon clips
Cyberlink PD. Encoded the lot with no issues - In fact the resulting footage was quite impressive.

I didn't get around to trying Adobe. Now to establish whats going on with VS4 (I prefer the user interface more in VS4 than Cyberlink).

1. See if changing the file extensions from .MPG to .M2T makes a difference in the "judder." Some software video players won't play back HD Mpeg-2 correctly if the file has a .MPG file extension. Did you notice that if you smart render a bunch of clips with .M2T file extensions that the resulting file has a .MPG file extension?

2. Don't try smart rendering MPEG-4 if you have transitions. There is a bug. At some point during rendering, Video Studio starts rendering the frames from the beginning of the timeline again. No smart rendering occurs after that, and finally rendering freezes at 99%.

3. Video coming from some video cameras has variable frame rates, so that each clip has a slightly different frame rate. That is why you can't smart render those clips and need to convert them to something else with a constant frame rate.

4. I've had excellent results batch rendering my MOV and MP4 clips to .M2T. But I use the h.264 AVCHD option instead of the MPEG-2 option. I use Upper Field First and 15000 bitrate. Those .M2T files smart render without any glitches even with transitions and effects.

Good luck.
