I am finding that if I select a range of files to rename that already have numbers at the end, say 1 - 12, it is changing the order of the files and seeing the files numbered 10 - 12 before the file numbered 2. I am pretty sure it didn't work this way in X3.
I don't have X3 installed any longer and hoping someone can verify this for me.

Re: Batch Renaming in X4
Computers in general are famous for doing this. Programers have gotten pretty good at hiding it, but some don't. Basically the computer looks at the number that start the sequence. 11 compared to 9 for example shows two numbers, one starts with 1 and the other starts with 9. 1 comes before 9. Do/see/use the sequences starting with 1 first, then 2, then 3, etc....
The workaround is adding digits yourself. 11 vs 09 for example, 0 comes before 1 so start with the sequence that starts with 0. If you're using more than 99 images you'd need to start with 001, more than 999 and you'll need to start with 0001.
I don't know about X3 doing this with the rename tool (never used it to rename personally) but people have been dealing with this for decades.

Yes, I know all of that.
The files are listed in the proper order in the folder on my computer but are being resorted by PSP before renaming. I am pretty sure the files were not resorted in X3 and want to verify that before claiming it as a bug.

Re: Batch Renaming in X4
Just tested this, and X3 acts the same way as X4. So does X2U which is as far back as I can test. So it hasn't changed for the last three generations anyway.

Thanks for checking this for me. Guess I've just been asleep at the wheel all this time.jaxman43 wrote:Just tested this, and X3 acts the same way as X4. So does X2U which is as far back as I can test. So it hasn't changed for the last three generations anyway.
