PSP X4 - Not Fit For Purpose

Post by arkitekt878 »

I have given up with this software. It's just too un-stable to use;

1. Unexplained Crashes
2. More than about 7 layers it just stops working
3. If I point PSP X4 at my photoshop plugins folder it freezes at the splash screen with Updating Cache - I have to start Task Manager to stop the process

I cannot contact support by submitting a case. So rang them, explained all the problems I was having and was told to send an email to emeasupport with my pin number and a specific persons name as the subject which I did. All I got back was the automatic response. Days later when I didn't really get a reply about my problems I sent another email to emeasupport. Days later I got an email from someone else in Corel telling me in effect the best place to raise support queries was this user forum

Well Corel I tried that first and no one answered, that's why I was forced to contact support by telephone

As I bought a boxed set from a software supplier in the UK I now have to try and convince them that PSP X4 is not fit for purpose and see if I can get my money back. I'm not holding out much hope with that.

Starting with (3 )why not start a new folder with your photoshop plugins copy them
name it psp plugins and direct X4 to that try it..
What are you doing when it crashes..
7 layers and it stops working have never had that problem..
at present I have 19 layers open
In reset preferences do you have delete cache ticked..
I find X4 more stable than X3 Cheers

Copying the plug-ins to another folder and pointing PSP X4 at that did not work. Splash Screen still freezes at "Update Cache".

When I'm working on a file I always work full size 3896 x 2616 RGB 16 Bit. Obviously a lot more memory is used when I do this. Do others work at lower image sizes?

For reset preferences do you have delete cache ticked..I do now.

Sounds like you need to clear your cache
Keep the tick in reset preferences delete cache..
then when you close down it automatically deletes all cache..
Try that and restart..
How many plugins do you have in your Photoshop folder.
there could be too many for X4 to bring in..
try breaking up the folder
Work on a file 8bit 78,740 pixels/cm.
Cheers

This hasn't gone away, I'm still having problems but Corel Support have been in contact with me and I've been sending them screen-shots of what has being happening. I mentioned un-explained crashes previously but twice today I have had them after using the HDR programme, this is something new.

I've got a neat little program that can capture scrolling windows so here's the details of the problem

Just as a matter of interest I have done a complete factory recover of my system and updated all the drivers including the graphics card driver

Corel X4 has made a folder
C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\14.0
where is with previous version it was My PSP Files
there is no folder in there for plugins.
Plugins go into Languages EN plugins..
I don't use this folder as I have my plugins in folders on another drive..
I have a capture program..
That reads merge has stopped working..
have you googled that crash name..Cheers
