Hello,
I know its going to be something really easy. but I've tried everything and I cant get it to work so...
All i want to do is create a new image... a black background to be exact which I can do easily enough, then I open a second image (a picture taken by hubble, im creating a new desktop background). I copy that picture, paste it onto the black background. All I want to do now is center the hubble picture on the black background. I can do it manually of course, but when I click on the hubble picture so that it is selected then go to the 'objects' drop down menu I see the 'align' option, it then opens another menu and it has it right there "center in canvas" but it is not selectable, actually the entire 'align' menu is grey meaning I cant select any of the align options. WHY??? its gotta be some stupid thing Im not doing... pls help.
Also, same project, the hubble picture... I want to but a border around it. Under the 'image' drop down menu is a add border option... but it adds a border around the black background/canvas and not the hubble image that I have selected!?! Why?
In both cases its like the program is not accepting that I have a new image (the hubble image) selected, its only allowing me to alter the initial black background.
WHY?
thank you... I get stuck on something and I obsess over it until i figure it out and cant move on till i do... help me move on:)

The Objects menu only works on Vector Objects not on raster images.
Border was, oddly enough, designed to place a border around the entire image not an individual layer.
There are lots of ways to go about this, I have even made special scripts to add raster alignment to PSP. And adding a border to a single layer can be achieved in any number of ways.
Now, that being said I might have an option for you.
If you leave your hubble picture open as its own image you can use it as a pattern from the Materials pattern.
Then using the Rectangle vector shape tool you can create a Vector Object that can be centered using the Objects menu. You can fill it using a pattern defined by a currently open image. And you can define a border through the "foreground/stroke" property on the materials palette.

Re: alignment & changing new objects
Not sure why, but this works for me. As you can see in the screen shot, my second image is a raster layer and the Align menu (center in canvas, etc.) is available. Levi - any idea why?

Re: alignment & changing new objects
Same here "CENTER IN CANVAS" is enabled and working for me. Just incase... my PSP X4 is 14.0.0.332 and the image is a raster layer and not vector.

Re: alignment & changing new objects
It's available in X4 but they never said which version of PSP they are using. In both X2 and X3 for me those bottom three options are never available for non-object types.

Re: alignment & changing new objects
Well that explains it - they must be using an older version. Thanks.
