Panit Shop Pro X4 Registration problem

Post by JohnRWolf »

I installed PSP X4 on my Windows 7 system today. We were told [by Corel] that it would overwrite the PSP X2 already installed and upgrade it.

PSP X4 seems to have installed OK, but PSP X2 is still on the computer and my gradients did not get imported into the X4.

Attempting to register and otherwise to use Help gives the message "Unable to connect to the server."

Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?

Thank you.

Despite what some people say it's a good idea to do a clean installation. I would back up any user relevant psp data somewhere first, then uninstall the X2 version (optionally using Revo uninstaller or something like that to remove traces/leftovers from previous installation) and then install the new version after rebooting the PC.

No you don't need to remove X2 you may need it..
I have versions 2,3,4 all installed and have no problems..
X4 is just their latest version..
It does not overwrite X2..

@ JohnRWolf - not sure why someone at Corel would tell you X4 will overwrite X4 because, as you've seen, that's just not true. I have X2 Ultimate, X3 Ultimate and X4 installed on my system and they do not overwrite one another.

I agree with Filly (assuming you have the room on your hard drive) that you keep X2 installed, at least until you have assured yourself that X4 will do everything you need. For example, some plug-ins work well on X2 but not X4.

Any custom gradients, etc. that you have on X2 will not automatically import into X4. You will need to point X4 to the folder where your gradients are stored via File -> Preferences -> File Locations (gradients).

Yes Kathy who on earth would have said that 4 overwrites 2..
That is bad advice given..
As you have said you need X2 to do what X4 doesn't..Cheers

Thanks for the information and suggestions. We are not sure why the Corel rep gave us misinformation.

The installation was clean, and today, the registration process worked, no problems connecting to the server, with no changes made on our end. We are not sure why it did not work yesterday.

Seeing that X2 is still on the computer, we clicked for updates on it, and we got what appears to have been an upgrade to a later version of X2, v 12.01, complete with a new icon on the desktop. Not sure what it added yet, but will take the good advice and hang on to it, and will follow your advice on how to import the gradients.

Thanks again to all.
