Firstly apologies if this post is a duplicate however after initially posting it I could not find it is this forum some hours later - maybe I accidentally clicked on Save instead of Post.
I have noticed that it is possible to overlap sound clips. Just wanting to know does this automatically add fade to the end of the first clips and start of the second clip - my testing could not confirm that. Also is there some documentation on overlapping sound clips as I could not find anything in the handbook.
Also a possible problem I have encountered (I could repeat it too).
When I add a video clip to the overlay track at times when I select it (left mouse click) VS Pro X4 appears to FREEZE and I cannot do anything within VS such as select something else. If I then select 'Show Desktop' (from the icon in my quick start bar) and then click anywhere in the desktop and then reselect VS from the bar at the bottom of screen I am returned to VS and it is not in freeze mode again. While I have a work around I find this very annoying. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi John
Go to settings – Preferences – Edit tab – Apply audio cross-fade automatically.
When you overlap a clip there is a “X “like symbol within the overlap showing X-Fade, when not applied the symbol contains small red spots. At least that’s what I see…..
When cross fade is applied the Fade in/out ramps also indicate being used.
Switch the timeline view to Sound Mixer and the wave form also indicates the fades, or not.
So yes it adds fade in and out to the two clips.

Sorry but do not understand why your system stalls after left clicking, certainly I have tried on my set up with no problems.

Re: Overlapping sound clips in the voice track
Thanks Trevor,
Yes I had discovered that fade can automatically be applied but thought that was only when using transitions (how great is that as in the past I had always had to manually apply fade out/in to the VIDEO clips and as I use quite a few transitions in a 20 - 60 minute 'movie' I always forgot to do it a few times) - one of the better improvements to VS of recent times.
Also being able to overlap sound clips and apply fade - that is wonderful too as in the past I had instances where I wanted to add background sounds where the associated video clips had say crossfade and I would have wanted to overlap the background sound clips and apply fade - fantastic. Pro X4 in my view is one of the best new versions for many years.
Yes I don't understand why Pro X4 freezes at times when selecting a clip in the overlay track (at the time the mouse pointer turns into an hourglass as if waiting for something but there is no disk activity and the pause/freeze goes on indefinitely until I go back to the the desktop or another 'session' and then return to Pro X4). At least I can get around the problem and don't have to reboot.
