Hi
Yes Video Studio can edit Mov files, Mov are QuickTime files.
Like any video Mov have many variations, I think the Canon uses Mov H264.
You will not be able to reproduce this, but will be able to render to other formats.
So yes VS will be able to edit from the 550D
Are you purchasing the camera as a still camera or for video use.
I ask because the camera is a still camera (18Mp) with video capabilities, as such its not a dedicated video camera.
I have a Canon 7D, very similar, when recording video there is no continuous focus, focus is fixed when pressing record.

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
Hello, Thank you for the answer, I really hope that Corel will identify the 550d mov files. I downloaded trial MOV file and Corel did not recognize him, I convert the file to MP4 and then I could edit the file, when you filming a video in 7D you dont have problem editing?
what you mean "You will not be able to reproduce this"
i cant directly insert the files from the camera to the timeline?i must to convert them befor editing?
And for your question, yes I know that DSLR is not intended for video, but when I saw the quality of the videos in YouTube they like the cinema, I decided that I want one. All my life i always shot with Sony, I think it's already time to make a change and move on to something professional

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
Sorry to ask it again, sure you have taken a HD 1080 video in your CANON 7D, What is the process you do to edit the file that you received, did you convert it to another format and only then edit? Or you put it directly to TIMLINE and begin editing, I'm going to buy the camera on a Sunday so I need to know in order not to regret later.
Thanks again for your help a lot

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
When trevor said "You will not be able to reproduce this" this means that you cannot create a Mov H264. file using VS X4. You should not have any problem inserting the canon's .mov file directly to the timeline of VS X4, since it is supported by VS X4, incase you encounter a problem in loading the file then you can convert it using any freeware converter like SUPER to any mpeg compatible format.

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
I have X4 Ultimate and it does not support MOV files. The import browser does not even recognize that such files are there. I had to buy a cheap video converter program to make them into mp4's in order to edit my Canon videos.

Video Studio supports Quicktime and Mov type video.
If you do not see any indication of Mov files within Video Studio then have you installed Quicktime.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
The older X4 version installed QT 7.5.5 when installing the program, I do not know if the Ultimate version installs QT?
The import browser is probably part of windows, if it does not recognise QT then I would assume you do not have QT installed.
Did you install the software the came with the Canon camera.

Hi Kobra76
Abiel is correct in that VS cannot reproduce Mov H264.
You will be able to insert the video and edit, the option Share Create Video File-Same as First Video will NOT be available.
When you right click a clip, select Properties, the compression details will be empty/missing.
Canon D7
Records to several quality settings
1920 x 1080 25fps/24fps
1280 x 720 50fps
640 x 480 50fps
I import the video to the pc’s hard drive, then insert to the timeline in the normal manner
I have no need to convert the video prior to using in Video Studio.
I then render the project to a video choosing the desired template.
My comment regarding the camera were directed at the fact that……….
Quote “when recording video there is no continuous focus, focus is fixed when pressing record.”
Assume you focus on a near object, start recording then pan to the background, a video camera would re-focus, the Canon does not, the focus remains fixed, the background would remain out of focus.
Same if recording at a distance and panning to a near object.

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
Thank you very much, because this is the first SLR camera I was going to buy so all these questions.
I saw ib YouTube videos of this model and was simply astounded at the quality of its image, just like the cinema

Corel can do something that would be nearly FILM LOOK like the video above, or you have to Edit in After Effects or some other plug-ins ?

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
Uuugh! Thanks for pointing that out or I would have never known. It looks like I had 2 problems with loading VSX4 Ultimate, when I only thought there was one. The first time I loaded the program, I spent hours looking for the ProDad video stabilization which [as it turned out] didn't load. When I uninstalled and reinstalled, it just magically loaded. Now with the MOV files, I double-checked to make sure Quicktime was there per your advice and it was. Thought so, but it's easy enough to double-check. So I tried another uninstall and install, this time uninstalling Quicktime first. This time VS4X magically loaded up ProDad and Quicktime AND it recognizes MOV files. Thanks. Previous to this I don't ever recall having to uninstall and install a program twice before it would load all its features.trevor andrew wrote:Hi 321321 wrote:I have X4 Ultimate and it does not support MOV files. Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
This why we have fingers and Canon has a manual focus ring on the lens...trevor andrew wrote:

I use MF for most of my video and also turn off image stabiliser on any lens when recording.
The Canon DSLR body also allows basic AF during video mode using the AF button (just edit out the 'hunting' AF section of any clip).

Re: did pro x4 supports mov files?
Should've bought the Panasonic LUMIX GH2. It does not have issues with auto focus in videos and can record hours of continuous video compared to that Canon which overheats when taking videos. Take it back and replace it...KOBRA76 wrote:Hello everyone, today I bought the excellent camera CANON 550D slowly I will start filming her video too

I've never, ever had a Canon 5D Mark II camera body overheat after thousands of hours of filming & countless stills when used in harsh environments worldwide.
