Will Patches fix X3? What is the expectation?

Post by edwinn »

I've downloaded all five of the Service Packs for X3, which are named "patches." SP and Patch are conceptually different, yes? Patch 5 was 68MB and much larger that the Patches and Updates webpage said it would be (22MB). That raised an eyebrow! I think it's a good idea to apply each PATCH, one after the next up to #5 but what are the expectations? Will X3 work without issues afterward? Will "patching" eliminate the bugs? What is your experience? Something isn't right with the software development and management of this software.

Further, the webpage should be titled:

"Home > Support > Patches and Updates > Paint Shop Photo Pro X3"

and not:

"Home > Support > Patches and Updates > Patches and Updates"

No software works without issue or bugs so no that is never an expectation. XD Also all of the patches up to X5 do offer a lot of stability to the program and fix quite a few bugs and even offer a few improvements (see the separate page for each patch to see its "detailed' description) but they do not fix all of the bugs currently in the system.

I don't believe anyone expects anything after patch #5 it's very likely X3 has reached the end of its life but unless we hear a direct word from Corel you never know. They might still be working on some of the problems.

No all 5 patches haven't fixed X3 ..
I suggest you get onto Corel and try and negotiate with them,
a cheaper price for X4, I feel that all those whom bought X3
should have been offered this..they did have X4 for $39US
up until the 16th Oct, it is by far a better version..
Looks like Corel have given up on X3..

Hello edwinn,

I'm not a software developer but AFIK, Service Packs is a collection of Patches or software fixes but they are sometimes confused over the other. Anyway, I think it's safe to say that all 5 updates for PSP X3 are all service packs as mentioned in the release notes. Anyway, since the release of SP 5, I think most major issue on PSP X3 have been addressed and fix. So you don't need to worry about anything.

Keep in mind Abiel said "most" major problems. Which means there are still a couple of major problems left unfixed. They haven't done a bad job of course. Much as I tease about the still current failing of X3 it's a sight better than it was. It's almost initial release quality.

I don't agree with you X4 is by far better than X3 with patch 5..
far more plugins work..and there are no memory issues..
it is a pleasure to use..not like B X3..
