Catalogueing Photos

Hi

Can anyone suggest the best way to catalogue photos, I currently save in Date order then a file for Raw then a file for original jpegs then a file for edited jpegs. then i tag jpegs.

eg 20111024
RAW file
Origianal jpeg file
Edited jpeg file.

If i search tags and choice a image i have to route for the RAW file. I think i must be doing something wrong,

any suggestions please
