I love the inclusion of ProDAD in Corel X4 Ultimate. Some shots we would have binned have been effectively ressurected!
Only gripe is that we make Pal 50i Blurays and I hate having to render things twice.
So for that reason we normally output at 50i and simply add to Nero and it can very quickly author and burn these files with almost no rendering.
We cannot output at 50i with ProDad Mercalli inserted onto our clips. It will certainly render the timeline but it comes up with a horrible darkened screen over the shot which has had Mercalli added to it. It says that the clip needs to be analysed again. The clips have already been analysed and we have no problems rendering at 25p. Is there a work around for this or our Corel addressing this issue? I know that Mercalli in other video editing software has the ability to manipulate interlaced shots but I thought it wouldn't matter for rendering.
Any help on this would be great.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: ProDAD Mercalli 2.0 - outputting interlaced?
I was working with 59.94i and Mercalli and could not produce the export AVI files well. They stopped while playing or never started. However, I found that WMV worked just fine.

Thats because WMV is always progressive.
It seems Mercalli has problems with interlaced shots and output in Corel only as the product website suggests that other video editors get more options when it is combined with them.

Re: ProDAD Mercalli 2.0 - outputting interlaced?
To avoid the 'black screen'...
Once you have corrected your video clip with Prodad, you must then render this file (just click on 'Share' then 'Create Video File, then click to render it to your choice, such as HDV 720P or HD 1080P) The newly rendered clip will now show at bottom of your working folder. It is the rendered file you must then edit your project with, NOT the Prodad file showing on your timeline. If you do not do this, then the Prodad dreaded 'black screen' will show if you try to re-adjust or re-edit a film project with a Prodad clip in it.
I find that the best way to work on a project is to drop a single 'shaky' clip on to the timline, work it with Prodad (click 'FX', then Prodad, drag Mercalli 2.0 on top of your clip in timeline, click Mercalli 'Options', click 'Customize Filter', click on stabiliser of your choice - 'Universal at 40% Pan Smoothing and 30% Zoom works well with most video clips), click 'OK'.
If you now watch the Prodad converted clip in your timeline it will look quite 'soft'. Now render this project file to a HD or HDV file via the Share option. The result will be a sharp & smooth video clip.
I now open up my main film editing project of normal HD AVi files in the Timeline, and then drop the rendered 'sharp & smooth' HD-P files on to the Timline where needed.
At completion of editing your full Project, then create a full rendered HD file. This completed file can then be brought back to the Corel timeline and straight to 'Share' (or in any other DVD software of your choice) to produced your finished DVD or BluRay disc, without fears of the 'black screen'.

Re: ProDAD Mercalli 2.0 - outputting interlaced?
For certain projects that will prove very useful.
The last bluray i made i put 25p video into Nero and just asked it to render it down to 50i. Result was fantastic. Very smooth, detailed and no glitches with the frame rate.
My workflow was the following:-
- Edit 25p clips in Corel.
- Add mercalli where needed
- Render it to blu ray 25p
- Take video and add to nero
- Ask Nero to re-encode to 50i before burning
- BEAUTIFUL!
Yeah it maybe takes 9 hours to make the disk... but the result is worth it. Steady shots and smooth motion!
Thanks for the help
