Photo Paint X5 - Creating a Banner

Hi

I'm a newbie to Corel so forgive the dumb question. I'm using an image to try and create a banner ad for a website. I'm trying to add text to the side of the image (not on the image itself) but am struggling to find out how to do this. Have tried the tutorials without success.

Also new to PSP, but think you need to change the canvas size.
Choose Image-Canvas size

I found the tool a little different to what I am use to, but does increase the image size which allows for the text.
