I have a Pioneer DV-49AV DVD player. It will play any/all commercially produced DVD but none that are produced in Vstudio. The main menu will display fine, but pressing the button to go to the chapters or play will hang the unit.
I also have a Pioneer BDP-23FD blue ray player and the same Vstudio DVDs play just peechy. Has anyone heard of such things before? Is there some Vstudio compatibility switch that I need to enable prior to burning?
I've also sent an email to Pioneer to see if they've ever heard of this.
TIA,
Walt

Re: DVD Player Won't Play DVD
The "rumor" is that older more-expensive players tend to have trouble, whereas the new super-cheap Chinese players will "play anything".
Some players have trouble with all "burned" (homemade) discs. And, some players have trouble with some of the formats. i.e. Some players can play DVD-R, but have trouble with DVD+R (or vice-versa) Or, they may have trouble with R/W discs or burned dual-layer discs.
DVD-R is usually the most compatible, but you might want to try +R, if -R is not working. And, you might just try a different brand of disc. (If neither +R or -R are working it's unlikely that R/W or dual-layer discs will work.)
You might also want to check your discs. You may have a marginal disc and maybe the Blu-Ray player is more tolerant. I check all of my burns with Nero DiscSpeed (FREE!!!) It makes a graph of disc reading speed, and if the reader gets a glitch it will slow-down and re-try, and you'll see a glitch on the speed-graph.
Sometimes burning at a slower speed will give you a "better burn".

Re: DVD Player Won't Play DVD
Thanks for the info.
One disk is a memorex DVD+r. The other is a Maxell DVD-RW. Same problem with both.
I'll post back here if/when I get an answer from Pioneer.
I like to use the 49AV because it's so fast to load compared to the bluray player.
The older I get the less patience I have.

Re: DVD Player Won't Play DVD
All of my burns seem to be running 2x-3x or so. 60 mins of video takes an 20-30 min to burn...not counting render time.

This site lists compatibility issues with dvd players, but yours isn't listed
I'd try a dvd -R disc, keep your bitrate to below 8,000 in total, so around 7500 for video and 250 for audio, use ac3 audio and burn slowly as you have done.

Re: DVD Player Won't Play DVD
Pioneer also told me to try a slower burn rate.
They also said commercially recorded disks have higher reflectivity and that there might be a problem with my player (dowt it since it has fewer than 50 hrs onit)....either defective or outofadjustment laser assembly.
I'll report back here after I reduce the burn rate by 50%.

Re: DVD Player Won't Play DVD
I'm mostly using Movie Pro Studio 7 pro for burning these days, since it always saves my projects correctly and I know exactly where the files are saved. I see where there's an option to change the burn speed but it's grayed out and won't allow me to change it.
