Entry level animation package?

Post by wezcorel »

At the moment I am creating presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint and exporting them as movies and then into Videostudio. I am also using Powerpoint for written content, such as slides. This is fine for basic informational type videos but obviously it's very limiting.

Before I bought Videostuido I used Animoto for a while and that creates some very nice movements and effects. I'd like to be able to do the same. Can anyone recommend an entry level animation package? Price below $200.

Thanks, Wez

Hi

I am not sure just what Aminoto actually created. I did view the web site and a demo on the home page, I assume this content is what the program is capable of.
Most of which I think Video Studio can do, can you be more specific in what you mean by “creates some very nice movements and effects”

If you are looking for a graphics program trial the Corel Motion Studio 3D

If you can provide a sample video on youtube we would have a better idea as to what you are trying to create.

Hi Trevor

thanks very much for replying. Yes sorry I should have included some examples.

I used Animoto to create the video on this site: http://www.cliftonmobile.com/

There was a lot of info to include and so I made the individual slides in Powerpoint, exported them as JPGs and uploaded them to animoto, which then animated them (including the movement of the slides through the video, the backgrounds and music).

This simpler video is also from animoto:

Note the way the photos drift and the drop-down bars with text. I would be delighted if any of this is possible in Videostudio

This is another animoto example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1_OvBHi ... re=related

In fact I am upgrading from animoto to videostudio. I am getting to really like videostudio but I need to find ways to create much more movement in the videos, particularly when I have chunks of text to display. My thought was to upgrade from powerpoint to another package (which I don't want to do because of time and expense) but as I said above if it's possible in visualstudio that would be great.

Thanks
Trevor Andrew

Hi

Try out the Picture in Picture filter, this will animate the image.

The text affect, the transparent bar with text floating from top, yep I think video studio can do that.
Maybe the text editor and animation, but may need to create the text as an image then P-in P

You mention Chunks of Text, how much is a Chunk?

The second sample seems more involved than the first, but sure I can create similar to first.

Thanks Trevor. I watched a video on youtube that gave a good explanation of PiP and I'll use that as a starting point. As I said it would be far better to not have to learn another package.

I would recommend that you download the trial first before buying the software. You can download the trial at www.corel.com/trials.

Just looked at the demo of MotionStudio3D. There seemed to be a number of very close resemblances to Cool3D (now obsolete). Is it, in fact, the descendant of Cool3D, and that's why Cool3D was dropped?

Well, in fact, Cool 3D and its big brother Cool 3D Production Studio were dropped, and at the time, Corel had no intention of producing them anymore. But a change in staffing about a year ago brought in someone who saw great value in Cool 3D (as did a number of enthusiastic users, including myself). So he set up a development team which eventually came up with MS3D... And yes, it has all the features of Cool 3D Production Studio, but includes more features, and is incredibly MUCH faster in rendering, which was the chief downfall of Cool 3D. With the latter, it could take me up to 40 - 45 minutes to render a 10 second title. Now, with MS3D, the rendering takes place virtually in real time -- though some of the more complex effects can take a bit longer.

Hi

A chunk of text would be similar to a set of bullet points on a microsoft powerpoint page, which would need to be broken-up for a video. The video on http://www.cliftonmobile.com/ is made-up of modified slides from a powerpoint presentation: the video is made 100% in animoto. But the point is that sometimes wordy concepts need to be conveyed through video.

Animoto is very good at one specific task: making animated slide shows. They do it really well. It would be great to figure-out how to emulate their transitions. I have found Corel's PiP to be quite laborious.

I am very interested to see how to create the transparent bar with text floating from top, because this is very useful to flag-up a call to action or some other info. I created this video in animoto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ED6Ovr7lS40 but I added the labels at the bottom and the falling transparent label in windows live movie maker!

Thanks, Tony

Blender is FREE, but I don't think it's "entry level". I haven't used it, so I can't say how easy it is to get started and do something simple, and I can't make a recommendation. I like the price and the examples on the website are impresive!

That's a great tutorial Trevor. Thank you very much. It's a pity though that there is a lot of undocumented features in videostudio!

I recently started to play with iClone (I bought iClone5 Pro) from Reallusion.
Till the end of October the new version has a promotional price.
The SW offers amazing opportunities... but it is definitively not as easy to use as a NLE.
The learning curve requires a considerable time.
But then, the integration of what can be done there with the feature of a NLE can be simply amazing.
