Export to Mp4 HD
Hi everybody,
I'm just testing I have a question:
I exported a sample video to several pre-defined formats. The best format (quality), which I can play on my Kathrein UFS 922 ist the MP4 - HD Profile (1920x1080, 25fps, 15000kbs...). Now I wanted to start a batch conversation for some videos, but I can't get the parameters like in the MP4 - HD Profile. Resolution (only up to 720x576), Bitrate (only up to 9000) and others are not setable to these settings.
What can be wrong, what can I do? (Why are the pre defined output profiles not available for batch conversion?)
Thank you
Ruppi

Hi Ruppi
Just tried Batch Convert using X4 with no problems, created a template to:-
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
32000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
Choose Batch Convert
Add a video File
Save Type As Mpeg 4 Files
Options
Compression tab—Video Type to H264 main
General tab select your sizes
Compression tab—Set the bit rate to 15000

In line with Trevor's suggestion. Here are some information on how to create your own template using VS X4 you can visit http://pnoy.me/1F

Re: Export to Mp4 HD
Ah, OK, I see:
the possible settings in the "general/allgemein" tab are depending on the profile setting in the tab "compression/Kompression"... Correct?
("frame-based" is "Bild-basiert"?
(In this Profile, I can't choose the frame-rate, 30 is probably ok, because I use a Beamer for watching, but for a Pal TV, it would be not perfect?)
Thank you!

Hi
you should use the frame rate of your original video, 25 fps.
if you use 30fps then 5 additional frames will be add causing a reduction in quality.

Hi Ruppi
Uppps...........Yep sorry most annoying for us Pal users when it defaults to NTSC rates.
Try using QuickTime Mov using compression MPEG 4 Visual
The frame size can be set by User Defined
Other options
You say you have tried several options for best quality, did you use MPEG Transport Stream Files

Re: Export to Mp4 HD
Just taking up Trevor's very last suggestion, in fact I would go for mpeg-2 transport stream as my very *first* option as the format. Curious as it might sound, mpeg-2 transport stream is the basis of all Blu-Ray formats, including AVCHD, which is of course mpeg-4, but nevertheless based on mpeg-2 transport stream! Clear as mud.
But if, in batch convert, you choose mpeg-2 transport stream as the output format, and click on Options, then on the Compression tab in the dialogue box which appears you can choose H.264 as the video format and/or tick the box below that labelled AVCHD. And below that you change the bitrate to the 15,000 you are after. Then you click on the General tab, and change (if necessary) the frame size to 1920 x 1080 and make sure the frame rate is 25 fps, and yes Frame Based is Bild-basiert auf Deutsch/in German.
Viel Glück!!

Re: Export to Mp4 HD
First: Thank you for the perfect support! A big point to purchase Video Studio when 30 days trial are over...
I will try Ken's advice.
You may have recognised, that I'm a newbie to video editing.
One important point for me is the output format (especially including transcoding older video files!), because I want to watch these video with my Kathrein UFS 922 (and a beamer) from my NAS. Unfortunately I couldn't get any detailled information, which format the kathrein can play. Some avi work, some not, some mpg work, some not, and so on. And of course, I want the best quality due to the beamers HD resolution.
So I made some test with the pre-defined output profiles of VS, as I wrote. wmv files were of very good quality, but the kathrein can't play. Same with BlueRay an DV profile. Btw the mp4 output from the batch converting menu doesn't work with the first options under "compression", only with the "main" profile... very complicated... To combine every option in every format and comparing quality an further testing compatibility with the kathrein is a job for me when I retire...
So, perhaps there is an easy answer to the question: How can I get the best HD video quality, which my kathrein can play?
Best regards

Re: Export to Mp4 HD
Hi Ruppi
I would look into the Transport Stream options.
As mentioned before it is best to retain the original Frames per Second.
HD tends to be 16:9, but if you have older video you may find it to be 4:3, so you may end up with black borders.
Knowing the properties of the original video files will allow us to advise on appropriate settings.
You tell us what the player supports but not what your original video types are?

Re: Export to Mp4 HD
Hi,
the original videos are very, very different. Older VCD files, DVD quality, some Internetvideos... avi, divx, xvid, mpg, mpg2 and many more with very different settings for resolution and fps and all the other settings.
I hoped, that I can find one HD format, to which I convert every original video, the size doesn't matter too much. It is more important, to avoid the annoying mistakes, if the Kathrein can't play...
Of course it would be perfect, to have a template like:
"Set resolution, fps to source, everything else to compatibility with the player..."
But not one programm I tested was working satisfying.
Is there a good advisory for the setting options and formats in VS?
