Small update:
Saving a TIFF file without compression made no difference at all.

Hi,
I am too a tiff heavy users. Could you post a small tiff sample you saved in X3, I wonder if that is cause by a tiff saved with thumbnail. I can not have this case in X4.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving bug
Pardon me for laughing, but after I bought and downloaded PSP X4 Black in last week's aptly named Black Friday sale, I did try to look into some jpgs in Notepad to see Corel's metadata formats. So little time to try to understand all this stuff.kchildress wrote:The problem was confirmed by Corel but to my knowledge was never resolved. Corel told me the problem occurred because files from that camera, "...actually hold a true EXIF Tag". I have no idea what that means.

Here is the same file saved under X3 and X4 with the same parameters (LZW compression, RGB, and include ICC profile).

In X4 SP1, each of those files opens just one image (both look the same, for my eyesight).eL_PuSHeR wrote:Here is the same file saved under X3 and X4 with the same parameters (LZW compression, RGB, and include ICC profile).

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
seems the X4 save a 160x160 thumbnail. that may be the reason X3 load it as a multi-frame tiff.eL_PuSHeR wrote:Here is the same file saved under X3 and X4 with the same parameters (LZW compression, RGB, and include ICC profile).

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Forgot to mention that I used some image viewers for testing this (Irfanview and XnView). Both opened it as a two-page multipage TIFF.
PS - Indeed. X3 also open two pages.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
I installed X4 a few days ago and I'm getting the TIF thumbnail too when I open TIF files created in X4. I get the thumbnail when I open them in PSP8 and X3. In IrfanView I don't see the thumbnail but on the toolbar it says I'm viewing Page 1/2. Something else odd that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread is that whenever I close those TIF files (full size and the thumb), I'm asked if I'd like to save my changes even though I've done nothing to edit them. The pictures I saved as TIFs were just random pictures that I'd downloaded, not photos that I've taken.
Also, if I save the little thumbnail version as a TIF, I still get a thumbnail but they're both the same size. I was sort of expecting to get smaller and smaller thumbnails each time I save the thumbnails again as TIF files.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Since my last post someone on another PSP forum noticed that he doesn't get the thumbnails in PSP7 so I checked on my computer. Sure enough, I don't get them in PSP5 or PSP7.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
I don't get them under PSPP X3 either.
I hope this will be solved on an upcoming SP2 if it's a bug or toggleable if it's a feature.
Best Regards.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Try as I might I cannot find any other thumbnail under XP or Windows 7
I started with a CR2 Raw file from Canon. Processed it in Canon's Digital Photo Professional to produce a TIF . The image size was 5616 x 3744 and occupied 30720 KB diskspace.
the following operations were done with X4 on an XP main computer and a Windows 7 Laptop,
1. Loaded the TIF into X4 saved it as a psp file and also as a tif .
PSP files
XP = 110250 KB
W7 = 110250KB
Tif
XP = 104555 KB
W7 = 105452 KB
2. Reloaded the Psp file and saved that as a TIF
XP = 105451 KB
W7 = 105448 KB
3. Loaded Tif images into PSP X4 and PSP X2 on both XP and W7 machines and nothing out of the ordinary. No thumbnails.
I did note though that in thumbnail view in windows explorer that the larger tifs did not show a correct thumbnail - it appeared as if a Effects -->Texture --> Emboss had been applied.
I did load the Tif into Irfanview and resaved it with no compression and that occupied 61755 KB . So one wonders what XP 4 is doin with the Tif to almost double the image disk size. (Just found that X2 also produces the larger size Tif.
Whic is why I refuse to work with TIFs as in most cases the final image for web use throws away more than 3/4 of the information that was stored in even a high quality Jpg let alone the extra information in a Tif

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
I have tested all options under X4. I ALWAYS get the thumbnail... Just loaded and JPEG and saved it as TIFF. I always got the thumbnail opened under Irfanview 4.33 (and opened under other programs too).

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
I am having a tiff problem. I created a tiff using HDR merge. While it was opened properly in some programs like Irfan View, there are others that were only able to open the thumbnail. This is very frustrating as I planned to do some additional work on it, but was unable to in that program.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
After buying a Win Vista laptop, I also purchased PhotoImpact X3. Corel Media One was included as an accessory that need not necessarily be installed. But I installed Corel Media One anyway, and subsequently became familiar with the somewhat hidden location of the app's sidecar thumbnail files. It turned out that if the user wanted metadata appendages or small thumbnail views in PhotoImpact's native file format, that Corel Media One was required.
Eventually I was able to successfully uninstall Corel Media One, and found that doing so did not impact my occasional use of PhotoImpact X3. I wonder what happened after that? I had never used PSP until I bought PSP X4 for a new Win7 laptop.
Do the later versions of PSP perhaps quietly include many of the features of Corel Media One? And thus the necessary sidecar thumbnails for certain file formats? Is it possible to deselect this feature and also avoid Corel's metadata tagging in PSP conveniently? Dunno. I only use jpgs and Irfanview, and occasionally wish that I had PhotoImpact on my current computer because it took me years to scratch the surface on it. At this time I still buy promising applications, just like the old dos days. And just like the old dos days, I seldom use them because I would rather watch someone else's work product on TV.

PSP X7 - TIFF saving issue
I have recently purchased PSP X7 and have found that it saves TIFFs as two page TIFFs that are incompatible with some other programs that I use (for example, there is no preview in Lightroom). Is there any way of turning this annoying 'feature' off?
