Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
For what it's worth, I get the same as Ken: one single image when saving a jpg as tif in PSP X4 (boxed) on XP pro SP3.
BTW I notice that one person sees the second image (small thumbnail) when opening the file in X2 on another PC. There are some parts of X4 that are not backward compatible with earler versions, but I have no idea whether this might be one.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Ok a couple of more details. (I don't do this work flow very often so it's not a problem for me but it may help others to solve the puzzle).
I used x4 on my 64bit desk top to create a PSPImage file. Then I saved that image as a tiff onto a memory stick. I then loaded that tiff file onto my laptop into x3 from the memory stick. When the file loads in x3 I get 2 images. (I start in x4 with a 4x6inch 300DPI image). In x3 I get the following. First image is 3000x4500 pixels. 3.937x5.906 inches. 762PPI. Second image is 106x106 pixels. .139x.210 inches. but still 762PPI.
I hope this helps.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
It's a big deal to me because other software I use that processes TIFFs doesn't like them to be this way.
I think Corel must have updated the TIFF saving routines and something is broken or not properly set up.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Sorry I didn't mean it not to be a big deal. Full stop. It's just not a big deal to me as a user. I'm simply trying to give some information that may help you solve your issues. Many folks have helped me with my issues and I'm just trying to return the favour.

All I can say is that this is not the case for those of us for whom it works correctly...,,,something is broken or not properly set up.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
And I really appreciated your help and efforts guys. It's just it's a bit unnerving that nowadays every publisher/developer out there seems to be rushing releases or not doing a proper beta testing cycle. But Let's be patient. I am pretty sure a hotfix or a patch will be ready soon.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
In the case of X4, Corel certainly went through a protracted beta process with a good cross-section of users involved. There was a good reporting process for getting their (many) comments and suggestions and bug reports back to the developers. But it has to be said that in all too many cases, these were not fully corrected or sufficiently taken into account at the Corel end. And ultimately, Corel had a release date which for some reason or other they were unwilling to push back. And now they are having to deal with the same sorts of comments and bug reports, but this time coming from people who have actually paid for the program. But yes, they say they will be produce a patch to correct some of the issues, though we still have no idea when this might appear.every publisher/developer out there seems to be rushing releases or not doing a proper beta testing cycle.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Unfortunately for me this TIFF saving issue isn't fixed at all under X4 Service Pack 1. The saving TIFF options menu seems identical to PSPP X3 but TIFF files are saved in a weird manner. Too bad I cannot use X4 until this issue is resolved.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
I am wondering if installing .NET Framework 4 would make some difference. I think I have .NET 3.5 currently installed.
I will try this afternoon to see what happens.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
I would suspect that if the second tif is a 'small' thumb sidecar file that it may be of a different file format intended to save metadata, even if the original tif cannot.
Perhaps it is only trying to save camera exif data, if any, in the thumb. When I tried saving a scanned jpg as a tif just now, PSP X4 gave me a warning that exif data would be lost. Perhaps there is a user setting in Preferences that enables sidecar metadata files for tifs.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
You may be right but I have tried checking all preferences and didn't see anything relevant. Maybe it's a feature but it looks like a bug to me because there is no switch to turn it off.
PS - Tried .NET framework 4.0 but to no avail.

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving bug
Offering what little feedback I can. Just installed X4 Ultimate last night (version 14.0.0.346 purchased/shipped from Corel). I am also a big TIFF user. I just went through my typical routine of saving TIFF files (uncompressed 'cause I want the EXIF) and opened the TIFF in three separate viewers with no problems.eL_PuSHeR wrote:Can anyone confirm this by saving any TIFF file and opening it afterwards with some image viewer like Irfanview for instance?
eL_PuSHeR, I had/have a terrible problem with TIFF files that originated from a specific camera with X3 so it is not beyond the realm of possibility something is going on. The problem could not be confirmed by other users or by Corel until I offered up one of the files for testing. No one else had seen the problem simply because they weren't using that specific camera. Sounds crazy, huh? There is detailed description here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=39813
The problem was confirmed by Corel but to my knowledge was never resolved. Corel told me the problem occurred because files from that camera, "...actually hold a true EXIF Tag". I have no idea what that means.
I just tested that same scenario in X4 and it seems okay.
Good luck,
Kevin

Re: PSPP X4 - TIFF saving issue
Thanks kchildress and JStanley for your replies/feedback.
kchildress:
PSPP X3 works fine for me as TIFF saving is concerned because I don't need the EXIF part at all. Anyway, something fishy is going on with TIFF files judging from the issue you have experienced. Let's hope Corel devs. check this sometime. I think I haven't tried saving a TIFF file without compression. Could try that to see if there is any difference.
Jstanley:
You are correct about the .NET thing but I thought "no hurt in trying".
Best regards.
