VSP-X3 capturing failed - files corrupt

Post by Tales 68 »

Haven't used X3 for a couple of months (having had no probs) but now when I try to import footage from camcorder as an AV file I'm getting message, 'Capturing failed. The file is corrupted and unusable. It will be automatically deleted'. The only recent change I've made to my laptop is renewing my Panda security - could this be the cause of the problem? Thanks in advance.

What kind of camcorder do you have? Have you used this particular camera with Video Studio in the past?

If you have a MiniDV camera connected via firewire, you can capture with WinDV (FREE!!!).

If you have a camera that records to an internal hard drive or solid state memory, and connected via USB, Windows Explorer can usually "see" the camera as a disk drive and you can drag the file onto your computer's hard drive, and open it from there.

And... the file might actually be corrupted if there was a "glitch" with the camera or something. :(

Thanks for reply - I've used this version and previous versions with my Sony pc330 for many a year without problems. I'm connecting through firewire. Very frustrating!

It is possible -- indeed likely -- that recent Windows updates or even Win 7 SP1 (if you have installed it) have updated the Firewire driver to a recent one which does not work with VS. In fact, with me, the Firewire connection never worked at all after clean installing Win 7 on two different computers. To fix it, I had to go into Control Panel > Device Manager > IEEE1394 Bus Host Controllers. And by double clicking on 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller, I had to change the driver to "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)". Unfortunately, I cannot remember if that was done by clicking on the Roll Back Driver button (which is what I seem to recall) or updating the driver (which would seem illogical if in fact you were installing an older driver). But give it a try and get back to us if it doesn't work.

But if it doesn't, you can always use WinDV which a lot of us here use anyway -- not so much because the VS firewire capture is broken, but because it allows you to name your files (unlike VS and its arcane naming system).

And if you need your Firewire also to work with a HDV camcorder (as I also do), then I use another small freeware program called HDV Split which, as its name implies, allows you to split the incoming video (which VS does not allow with HDV) and also to name your files.

Thanks Ken for your reply, I have followed your advice with the following results: the Roll Back Driver button is not highlighted to click, so I have no option to 'Roll Back', also says that the driver is updated.
Tried to download WinDv - on clicking the download button multiple screens opened - settling on google homepage - with no further options. I have had problems before with downloading Zip files. So I haven't really got any further. Thanks

Hi

strange that the download of Win DV is giving problems, maybe thats the Panda stopping that.
I will e-mail you a copy of Win Dv as a Zip file
