I've just recently purchased PSP X4 since they touted that it was much faster loading and more stable (X3 was horrible about crashing). I continue to be amazed at how they (Corel) can just keep digging a hole instead of actually improving this product. I can see why they continue to lose market share.
1) I can no longer open mulitple images at the same time for side-by-side comparison. The work area now will only accommodate 1 open file at a time. I've tried all that I can think of unless someone can tell me different.
2) I miss not having the file size included in the data box that appears when you hold the cursor over a thumbnail. It was always handy when downsizing (resizing) photos for posting.
3) It is a pain now to have to go back and forth from the "EDIT" tab to the "MANAGE" tab to view full-sized photos (without having to open one at a time). They really screwed the pooch in X2 or X3 (can't remember) when they got rid of the old Organizer format. It was soooo easy to navigate; you had a screen full of thumbnails, you saw what you wanted and clicked it open....just too easy I guess!!! I was hoping they would go back to it for this version. I know in other forums, this change really rankled a lot of users. They just seem to bounce around trying different things. I wonder who the h*ll they use to test this stuff in-house!!!! If something is working......don't break it!!!
I do like the faster speed, but don't know if I'll go for any more versions after this or not (been here since V.7 when JASC owned it). Big mistake selling if off to Corel. I've just about had it and there is some decent up and coming competition out there nowdays.
Well, that's my rant.

Re: PSP X4 Issues
Jim,
Regarding #1 - X4 defaults to tabbed mode. Go to the Window menu and uncheck Tabbed documents to have multiple images show in the work area. One caveat - if you use the maximize button on an image it will automatically revert to Tabbed Mode, so I would recommend zooming in and out, if need be, rather than maximizing.
I can't help you with #2 & #3 as I only use Edit mode.

Re: PSP X4 Issues
Your concern are all legitimate and I can understand why you are frustrated, Jim. So if you're having problem with your PSP X4, people here in the Forum are more than willing to help you, you can also call the Corel Support if you have a serious concerns.jim k wrote: 1) I can no longer open mulitple images at the same time for side-by-side comparison. Just like with old versions of PSP, you always open multiple image and do side-by-side comparison when you're on window mode and on PSP X4, you can go to window mode by disabling the tabbed documents settings. You can go to WINDOW > then remove the checkmark on the TABBED DOCUMENTS option.
2) I miss not having the file size included in the data box that appears when you hold the cursor over a thumbnail. It was always handy when downsizing (resizing) photos for posting.
They only included the information regarding ISO, Shutter Speed, F-stop and Exposure. If you want a more detailed information, then you can look at the Image Information by clicking on the Info icon. It's the letter "i" in a circle.
3) It is a pain now to have to go back and forth from the "EDIT" tab to the "MANAGE" tab to view full-sized photos (without having to open one at a time). They really screwed the pooch in X2 or X3 (can't remember) when they got rid of the old Organizer format.
If you are referring to the organizer palette similar to PSP X2, this feature was placed back on PSP X4. If its not present on your end then you can open it up by going to VIEW > PALETTES > ORGANIZER SHIFT + F9.

Re: PSP X4 Issues
Thanks, Kathy and Abiel regarding question #1. That did fix that problem.
As for #2, I understand the "I" button and its purpose, but then it's just another step everytime I want to know a file size. The file has to be opened before the Information button will work for that photo in the Edit Tab......where I spend most of my time.
For #3, maybe it was even version XI, I'm not sure, but it was before the Organizer was changed to a tray layout....at least permanently. In the previous version, you could opt for a thumbnail view and work from it without having the go back and forth between photos. You could just scroll through a screen full of thumbnails for find the photo that you wanted.
Just don't understand the philosophy. That was one of the things that they had over the competition at the time was the ease of accessing photos and working on them.
Thanks again for the help.
PS - Ctl + O opens the SAVE AS dialogue window in the Adjust and Edit tabs instead of the OPEN dialogue window. Actually, in the Edit tab, it won't do anything unless you have a file open first. It only opens the OPEN dialogue window in the Manage tab.
