I've been struggling with a Sony SD mini-dvd camcorder for 4 years now - really hate the picture quality. I'm thinking of getting a new one, but am unsure what TYPE I should get.
I have VideoStudio Pro X2 video-editing program, have a High-def TV but nothing Blue-Ray (no PS3 or such either).
I'd like the new camera to be capable of recording an entire concert or close to it, probably 1 to 1/2 hours (grandson is a music performance major in college). I also like to make movies of trips we take and often make them for others as well, combining still shots with video clips and various music. These are usually around 40 - 45 minutes in duration, and need to be capable of being played on a variety of TV's.
Should I stick with standard def? Also, I'd always heard mini-dv was best format for editing but am seeing so many camcorders with smart cards and internal hard drives. It has my head swimming!
In addition, I'm not a pro and want to be as economical as possible.
Any suggestions or feedback would be SO appreciated.
Joyce

Re: Need a new camcorder
As much as I want to help you, I usually use my D3100 to capture some HD video, then my Sony cybershot for some easy capture.
