Cannot generate files or burn discs
VIDEO STUDIO PRO ULTIMATE....A real head-scratcher...
Cannot create discs, files, or instant projects. When attempting any kind of "sharing", the program closes and sends me to the desktop....very perplexing as this occurs on my XP Pro PC, but so far is running ok on a W7 laptop. Any ideas?
Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
What format are your original files? This is probably a CODEC problem related to the file you are feeding-in.
This post is a different topic, but there are links to several different CODECs.
Or, you can convert to a different format with SUPER (FREE), depending on what final output format you want. (If you download SUPER, follow the links to download SUPERsetup.exe... Don't get fooled by the ads for other software on their website.)

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
It doesn't matter if I import my own AVCHD files or use Corel's sample MOV's, cannot generate files or burn discs from anything.

can you tell us what exactly happens?
Any error messages and from your original post the problem only happens when using VS X4 that is installed on your Windows XP computer?
In addition to DVDDoug mentioned. Here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
I am stuck too. I'm using x4 Pro and Windows XP.
I found an answer in the knowledge base and downloaded afCvtTitleMenuRenderUnit.dll This didn't work.
I then tried downloading service pack 1 & this hasn't worked either.
My problem is that when I try and burn a DVD disc I get 'unspecified error'.

Hi Corelnewbie
Please Read this before Posting, this so you know what type of details we need.
You can then give us further details regarding your project, its content, the type of video files used and their properties.
We do know that you intend to burn a DVD but you don’t say what type? Maybe a BluRay maybe not?
To burn a DVD you can first convert your project into a single video file. Share Create Video File, then use this to burn the DVD.
However you could simply do Share Create disc, you have some options to select, again we just don’t know what you chose?

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
I've used Belarc & added more details into my profile on this forum. I'm not great with IT, so please bear with me.
I've made 4 projects with VSx4 and want to put these together onto a DVD. I'd like each project to be a scene, so the viewer can select each one by turn.
I've tried two ways to make a DVD.
1. Click 'share' then 'create disc', then 'add media: VSP'. All the thumbnails loaded into the preview fine. I was able to progress to the final step- burn. Then got 'unspecified error'.
2. Then I tried opening just 1 of my projects and then clicked 'share' then 'create video file'. It then rendered me a file called 'movie clip' (can't work out what file extension this is). I repeated this for each of my 4 projects. I then went back to 'share', 'create disc', then 'add media:video files'. Again all the thumbnails loaded fine and I progressed to the burn stage and got same error message.
Someone else has mentioned to me that XP operating system has no DVD burning software, but you can get freeware for this. I don't know whether my OS has what it needs, or whether Corel has inbuilt software so this isn't the issue here??

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
Hi
Thank you for updating your PC spec, I use XP and there is no problems with burning a DVD.
Video Studio X4 has the built in Burner Module (authoring section)
First view my Quick Guides these will give you a rundown on the workflow I use. (Link below)
They were written a while ago but still relevant, but assume we are using either DV-Avi or Mpeg files.
Read about DV-Avi, Mpeg and Burn a Disc.
I would advise that you Create a Video File of each project using one of the DVD options.
What you select really depends on the original video files used.
Then from a new project add the video files.
For each video file you add a link will be available in the DVD Menu. This will allow the user to select which video to play.
OK
You need to give us some details of your 4 projects, I assume they contain similar video files.
Right click a file in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
Can you tell us where you got the files from, downloaded, from a video camera, if so how did you transfer the video to the PC?

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
When I tried creating video files & then viewing them in Windows Media Player, there was no sound. I tried then also creating an audio file and it did that successfully. But how would anything other than VS know they were to be put together? (ie if I was going to try and create a DVD with something else, out of desperation!)
My 4 projects are all similar- they're a review of our charity's activity from 2011, so I split my content into quarters so viewers didn't lose interest.
They contain images (.JPGs saved on my PC) and videos. I also used a template from Corel to give me an intro which includes some of their sample music.
There are two types of video file, as I started this project using a stills camera which also made videos. Those ones are .AVI and were put on my PC using a memory card reader. You mention DV-Avi. Is this something different?
Mid project I got a Panasonic SD900 camcorder which makes .MT2S files. They were transferred over onto the PC using a USB cable and Panasonic's software. I initially struggled to get them into VS, but eventually worked out it was the grey folder I needed (import media files).

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
Hi
Avi is just a container an envelope containing the video file, there are many, hundreds of types.
DV – Avi is just one, it is Digital Video, created by the older type Mini DV Camcorders.
Excellent quality and probably the easiest of formats to edit. (13 Gb per hour)
You say you are using Avi, we need to know what type, Right click the video and choose Properties, what are they?
Do this for all video files you use, even if its just to get used to the different formats.
Just noticed your location, where-abouts in Yorkshire? At least I know you should be using Pal.

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
When I view properties of my .avi file it tells me size, bit rate, frame rate... but not much else. It's the video option on my stills camera.
Have now tried taking a single .avi file and tried to 'create disc image' and generate an .iso file to my desktop. It still says unspec. error.
Have also tried using a single .mt2s file to do this and it says the same.

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
Hi
You are not giving me much to go on, you know the bit rate and frame size and presumably the compression type, maybe the frame order but you seem to want to keep the details a secret.
Your pc is quite slow/old having a single processor, HD can be quite demanding, the render times are going to be slow.
Make sure that Smart Proxy is enabled and that proxy files have been created, view the Smart Proxy File manager.
Ok
Start a new project.
Place a MT2S video into the timeline.
Do Share - Create Video file DVD Video 16:9
Does that fail?

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
Thank you for your patience Trevor.
.AVI files: I'm sorry, I wasn't sure which info was useful to you. The info I get is: size= 108MB, w=1024 pixels, h=768 pixels. Bit rate is 705 kbps, audio sample size is 16 bit, audio format is PCM. Frame rate is 15 frames per sec, data rate is 14803 kbps.
Smart Proxy: can you tell me what this is?
Have used Mt2S file to create video file as you suggested. It plays in Windows Media Player, but with no audio. Did you mean for me to then go on to try and create a disc with it?

Re: Cannot generate files or burn discs
Hi
Looking at the frame sizes of the Avi I think it may be those that are giving the crash/errors.
Guessing it may be a Mov or Mp4 file, again you don’t say.
Everything about it being non standard when it comes to a DVD.
Lets look at the Panasonic 900 files.
So you were able to create a video file using the Mt2S.
Did it play ok in Video Studio or do you still have audio problems.?
The camera will have come with some software , did you install this, if not can you do so.
The software may provide the files needed to play the video/audio.
Can you right click the M2ts video file, your video may be using 50p which VS does not support at the moment, you can however record to 50i, which would be a better option.
I do not use HD and would need as conformation from Ken our HD guru.
There is no need to create a disc at this time.
