WinDVD 11 using S/PDIF - Stereo Downmix only??

Post by ralle »

Hi everyone,

I have recently installed the WinDVD 11 Pro trial, last not least to play the-BD-box-which-crashes-all-other-player-software. Plays without crash or macroblocking - Great Start!!

Now unfortunately I only get a stereo-downmix via optical out
The setup:
Shuttle XPC SH67
i5 2500
4GB
2TB HDD
onboard sound & HD2000 Graphics
DVI connection to projector
optical out to AVR

I do get 5.1 sound from vlc, so the system should be ok, WinDVD downmixes movies on HDD, DVD and BD to stereo, which is a bit of a disappointment, to put it mildly.

WinDVD settings do not contain a setting to activate pass-through, 'optimization tools' (or whatever they may be called in the english version) inform me that "S/PIDF" is connected, a blue marker in front of Digital-out (I guess...unclearly labelled "Digital-AUS" in the German version), the words 'bitstream output' are shown, but NOTHING CAN BE SELECTED OR CHANGED...!!!

Support call did not help.

Anyone have an idea what's wrong?

Not my first HTPC, actually, but first WinDVD *& BD* attempt...

Thanks!!

Now I maybe barking up the wrong tree here as I've been having the same issues on and off and in different guises as I've been setting up my new system, the old one just didnt cut it, always glitching and stuttering, but have you tried right clicking on ur volume icon in the bottom right hand area (system tray) of ur desktop, choose Playback devices and then in choose ur digital output (optical) device and click on properties... once there choose the Supported Formats tab. I had an issue where it wasnt sending through the correct bitstream feed to my amp cos I hadn't told my system what feeds my amp could decode. So here i had three options in my encoded formats, i ticked the ones that worked, Dolby digital and DTS and clicked on the test button for each. Do the same for the box at the bottom labelled sample rates, my amp wont go above 96k so i turned off 192k and tested again. Then I just made sure that in WinDVD Pro 11, on the bottom bar, choose Tools and then click on enhancements and make sure the audio is selected to come out of the Digital Out - bitstream output option and pass through primary. I'm pretty sure thats how it went for me.
