Selecting Clip Goes To Front Of Clip

Post by kevsim »

When I select a clip, it then goes to the start of the clip, how can I sop this happening and the clip stays in the same position when selected.

Hi

When you first select a clip the first frame is selected, it has to start some where unfortunately the program doesn’t mind read.

By first selecting the Project Rule at the top of the timeline will position the playback curser, playback will start from this position (Project Playback)
Now click the clip, anywhere, curser will remain in position. Play in Clip Mode.

The latest version, X4, behaves better. I am guessing you don't have VS X4.

I thank you both for the replies,
I am using Video Studio X4.
I knew there would be a simple solution for the clip moving, once more thank you.

As a newbie (and I am currently using X3), was just perusing the forum and came across this, and am confused. I cannot find "Project Rule" on my screen. Can you tell me exactly where to look, or was this a general term?

I also have other problems in placing photos or videos on the timeline where I want them. For some unknown reason a video clip extended itself far beyond its original duration. When I shortened it with the cursor, a couple of photos that were before it, jumped to positions after it. Any idea why this would happen?

And now, what is the best way to move them back to where they were and keep the duration and position of the adjacent photos as they were? Can you do this by either dragging or copy and paste?

I find it somewhat frustrating that the movement arrows at the beginning and end of each clip will only allow you to move in one direction, so that you cannot for example, move the beginning of a clip to the right. I have seen comments that say it is easy to edit and move clips, but I have not yet found it so. Is there somewhere this is explained in detail?

Thanks.............Don

The project rule(r) is the line of numbers immediately along the top of the timeline which indicate exactly where you are in your project.

I can only assume that when you shortened your video clip you also inadvertently moved it to the left - squashing up against the two photos which then automatically jump to after the clip to allow the video movement you set.

There are no movement handle at the ends of a video clip - the yellow bars are trim handles for lengthening or shortening a clip - if the left hand one is at the beginning of the clip it cannot move left beyond the beginning of a clip. to move any thing in the timeline click on it somewhere away from the end, then hold the left mouse key down and slide left or right - items in the timeline will move to accommodate the movement you are applying , so if there are items where you want to place something the rest will slide along to make room.
