Using VideoStudio with Panasonic .MT2S files

Post by CorelNewbie »

I'm new to all this & struggling to understand the Forum posts/replies. I'm not a techie, sorry!
Have put VideoStudio4 on my PC.
I'm trying to use it with a new Panasonic HDC SD900.

I used the camera's software to download my video files on to my PC.

Corel VideoStudio 4 has a capture mode and an edit mode. I’d been using edit and then trying to browse for my files so I could add them into my library for use in that film. It couldn’t see the .mt2s files.

I’ve now tried connecting the camcorder and using Corel’s capture mode. Someone had suggested that to find my files I needed to follow private, then AVCHD, then choose BDMV, then choose the folder STREAM. But there’s nothing there.

I don't know which way Corel VS expects me to find files, but neither way is working. Could someone explain in plain English?

Hi

And welcome to the forums….

You are probably best to use the software that came with the camera.

Are you able to locate the video files using Windows Explorer.?

To insert a video file to the timeline, right click the timeline and select Insert Video
Browse the Open Video File window to locate your video files.

As you are new to forums you may find this video tutorial useful

I use a simular Panasonic camcorder for quite some time with VS. Before starting VS get your files on the PC HDD by just connecting the camcorder through USB and find the SD card in the Explorer as a removable disk. Look for AVCHD...STREAM, where you will find your vid files as .mts files. Just copy/paste them to your local HDD . Then start VSX4, go to the "ADD" icon (above the library) and open your downloaded files. They wil be loaded in VS for further editing. You don't need the HDwriter program which comes with the Pana.

You may want to check the setting of the camera's software to check where the videos are located on your computer. From there you can insert the videos to the timeline by going to FILE > INSERT MEDIA TO TIMELINE / INSERT MEDIA TO LIBRARY > INSERT VIDEO then go to the folder that is setup in the camera's software. You should be able to locate or see the file.

I use a card reader to place the files where I want to on my HD, where I can review them and sort them as desired. Then, I can load whatever I need into VS Pro X4. Simple and fast-no need for USB..

Thanks for all the replies. Have decided best approach is to avoid putting the files on my PC using the USB & Panasonic's software. I just thought I'd follow the obvious steps, but looks like other methods work better.
