Split by scene didn't work perfectly.

Post by jparnold »

I have recently captured video (6 tapes each tape to a separate folder on disk and 'folder' within VS) from my VidCam (DV tape) and selected 'split by scene'. I was using VS9 as at the time I was having problems using Pro X4.

Every clip/scene captured for the first tape I captured to disk includes the first frame from the following clip.
This only seems to have affected the first tape I captured.

Any ideas how this could have happened? It is annoying as I will have to cut the last frame from each clip if I rearrange the order of the clips on the timeline.

Hi John

Pretty good description.

I passed this on to Corel Support just after first using X4, (think it was X4????)
The earlier versions (ulead) were ok with capture till I installed Corel X3 or maybe X2???, I think common files may be used and X4 is the last to be installed.

Anyhow Corel’s reply was “as I was the only one to complain then it cannot be a problem”.
They refused to try to simulate the problem.
I gave up with Corel Support..........

Now I use Win DV to capture, this is frame accurate and also allows me to name the captured clips.

There is also the same problem if you apply Split by Scene after capture.

Hi Trevor,

I just remembered that I had the problem ALSO using Pro X4 (I previously indicated that it was when using VS9).
I just remembered that I had captured from my first tape using my Netbook PC while overseas (using Pro X4) and then I transferred all the captured clips to my desktop PC using my home network.
SO my problem also was using PRO X4.

I found your statement
Anyhow Corel’s reply was “as I was the only one to complain then it cannot be a problem”.
very interesting as years ago when I reported a problem using VS10 (and I eventually gave up and stopped using it) I got much the same 'sympathy' (nobody else seems to have the problem).
I get the impression sometimes that such problems are put into the "too hard basket" (as we used to say when I worked on the 'help desk' of an IT department in a large manufacturing business).
