Get Error in PSP X3 When Try to Open Images Created in X4
The PSP X4 trial I was using expired yesterday. Today when I try opening .pspimage files in X3 that I originally created in X4, I get an error message that says they are not valid Paint Shop Pro image files.

Re: Get Error in PSP X3 When Try to Open Images Created in X
Did you save them with X3 compatibility?
X4 supports features that X3 doesn't so X3 should not be able to open X4 files unless they are saved with X3 compatibility.

Re: Get Error in PSP X3 When Try to Open Images Created in X
You're kidding right?
If it's different in X4 and not backwards compatible, then it needs a different file type designation and not just use .pspimage and expect people to freaking know!!!
I will trash all of my work from the past month before I will be scammed into buying X4!
Edited to add............
I find it interesting that I can open .psd files with unsupported features but I can't open a .pspimage file that didn't even use any of the newly added features.

Re: Get Error in PSP X3 When Try to Open Images Created in X
You don't need to scrap a month's worth of work. You just need to find someone to do the conversion for you.
Both ways are very reasonable. It makes sense to expect to not be able to open a newer format with older software and it also makes sense to expect them to allow import a newer format informing them that certain features won't get in.
PSP's file format handling has never been the best.

Just like what Levi said, you just need to save your PSIMAGE FILE to be compatible with PSP X3, here's the steps that Levi posted on the other thread.
- After clicking "Save As" in the "Save As" dialog box there should be an "Options" button at the bottom.
- Click on that and you get to choose which version of PSP you want to save the PSPImage for.

Re: Get Error in PSP X3 When Try to Open Images Created in X
Sounds like her issue is that her trial of X4 expired and she has no way to open the images created in X4 to save them as X3 compatible.

Don't be ridiculous. Only save as low as you need.
And, again, I'm sure people are willing to help with conversion in cases where others can't do it themselves.

Can this work -- conversion from X4 to X3 -- be done with scripting? (...automation?)

Yes you can make a script that sets the PSPImage option to an older version of the format.

Since when do tubes have a version option? Anyway I repeat "Only save as low as you need." If maximum distribution of a something "needs" a lower version then save for that. But don't save low just to save low.

Re: Get Error in PSP X3 When Try to Open Images Created in X
Every time I even start to get over this issue, I just end up more angry! On Oct 9th I submitted a 1 star review with a diplomatic comment on X4, citing this issue, and I just noticed that they never posted it. What good are reviews if they are censored? Maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion, any reputable company that audits it's reviews would have contacted the reviewer by now. At the very least, they should offer a renewal of the trial so I can go in and re-save my work.
Does anyone know a phone number that isn't for paid support?
