frame size/ save trimmed video

Post by Mason »

My apology for my inexperience... I thought the best way to construct my video would be to 'cut' out all the sections of video I wanted to use, and save them in the library. When I had them all, I could then bring them down to the timeline where each needed to go. The videos I am working from are 512x288, and when I try to use the 'save trimmed video' function, it comes back saying my frame size is not per the settings. I haven't seen a way to make the project accept a different frame size, that option is grayed out under preferences. Is there a way for me to cut out the sections I want and save them individually? Thanks in advance for info.

I know most you you guys are experts, so this is old news to you, but poking around tirelessly I found that if I used the Batch Conversion feature and converted my MPEG-4 videos to WMV, doing that allows me to use the 'save trimmed video' function.

I suppose it depends on what you were wanting to do with the video in the first place. That frame format size (512 x 288) is quite unusual and sounds as though it may have come from something like a program which can do a screen capture of video or something like that. WMV is itself not a particularly easy format to edit or convert -- it was designed by Microsoft as a distribution format. So it may not necessarily be a good thing to have converted your mpeg-4 into WMV -- but again we would need to know what you are intending to do with it.

Hi

Saving each individual video file as a separate clip is probably not the way to work.
Your video file seems non standard which is probably why VS cannot copy the properties using 'save trimmed video'

OK
If you drag the first clip to the timeline, cut and remove unwanted frames, now drag another clip to the timeline and repeat, removing the unwanted frames. Eventually you would have built up your movie as virtual clips within the timeline.

You could of course drag all clips to the timeline and working left to right edit each clip in turn.
Now add a title, a few transitions.

You are working within a project, saving the project from File Save will create a VSP file.
This can be used later by File Open Project, to continue editing.

To create a new video file of the completed project you simply do Share Create Video File.
The choice you make here depends on what you are intending to use the video for, to create a DVD or for the internet.

As Ken asked “suppose it depends on what you were wanting to do with the video in the first place”.

Please right click your video clip (in the timeline) and select properties, what are they?

Thanks Ken and Trevor. I've also found that if I use the Batch function and allow it to convert my MPEG-4 file to an MPEG-4 file, the resulting file now works with all the available functions. I'm wanting to cut out certian clips to make this music video so I can sync them with the music and then fill in the remaining sections of the video with other clips. In any case, It's all working for me at this point, so thanks again.
