No help available SOLVED

Post by VIM »

PSP X4, Dutch version on Win7 64bit.
When trying "Help", I get a message (free translation from Dutch!): "Display of Web Works-help failed."
Anyone any idea how to solve this?

There is a patch now available for this: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 2296136690 (though I see this link contains a reference to Nieuw Zeeland, where I live -- you may have to look at Corel.com > Support > Patches and Updates to find your own link). Then select your language, download and install.

Thanks for assistance Ken. Downloaded Dutch patch, installed... error still the same. Patch apparently does not work for me. :(

Hmmm... The reference to Web Works help is a little confusing. Does it have capital letters where you have placed them in your translation? I ask since Web Works, amongst other things, is a program/platform developed by Blackberry. So I am wondering if something on your computer is conflicting with the Help update.

This is the text in Dutch:
Weergave van Web Works-Help mislukt.
Where "Weergave" means "Display".
Where "van" means "of".
Where "mislukt" means "failed".
And the capital letters are exactly as shown.
So:
"Display of Web Works-Help failed"
is a quite correct translation. But believe it's the capital letters you wanted to have more info about???
Would this shed more light on the problem?

Well, it just seems strange that it refers to Web Works, which is as I say a separate program -- yet the Help is supposed to be for PSP, not Web Works. Do you have any Blackberry software on your computer?

When I downloaded the English version of that file, and went to install it, it unpacked and began installed but it found it didn't need to update my X4 as the version I bought already had Help in it. And that was the message I got --"no update necessary". But no reference at all to anything like Web Works...

Do you know offhand what the Dutch for ".Net framework" might be? As you know it is an element of Windows, and I am wondering if you have a version of it which needs updating and in the meantime won't allow this file to install. However, that sounds a bit strange even to me!

Ken, thanks again for your very prompt reply.
Nothing for Blackberry on my PC.
.Net framework has no translation in Dutch; it is mentioned as such in my installed programs.
I have:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 v 1.1.4322
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile v 4.0.30319
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended v 4.0.30319

Tried to re-install the help file package again.
I don't see any message that there is no need to do that; the installation simply runs to end "without problems".
And again.
And again.
But still no help available :(

Continued to Google around and found following suggestion on some Windows Board:
In the Windows Configuration screen, Standard programs: confirm Internet Explorer to be the standard program for the file extentions listed.
Did nothing more and the help function now works!!!
:o :o :o
Might be useful for other users in the future to take a little note of that.

Thanks for posting the solution, and I admire your patience! But I remain confused since I don't even use Internet Explorer as my browser. I use Firefox, and the Help file opens happily in that... :?:

The forum where I found the suggestion in fact stated that just confirming your own browser (being IE or Firefox or...) as standard browser did the trick. As if the connection with my browser was broken for this kind of help system.
They did not claim that it had to be IE. Just that you have to confirm the extentions for your standard browser (like changing your standard browser from IE to Firefox and back - but I did not have to do that; I just confirmed the extentions for the only browser I use; IE).
Here's the site: http://answers.microsoft.com/nl-nl/wind ... 0c1673a659
It's in Dutch but may be an Internet translator may help... if needed.
It apparently also occured for some in PSP X3.

Now, with all this terminology in mind, I even was able to "Google-out" http://forum.corel.com/EN//viewtopic.php?f=56&t=38496 on this very forum.
