Much smaller limit to canvas size in X4 compared to X3?

Post by bearspa »

I'm trying out X4, and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but it seems like the canvas size on X4 at any resolution is much smaller than in X3, e.g., at 200 pixels/inch, X4 allows 50"x50", while X3 allows 164x164". Similarly at 150 pixels/inch, X3 allows 218", while X4 allows approximately 67". Given the fact that X4 is supposed to provide access to more memory, and uses a scratch pad, this does not make sense to me----or am I doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. The important part is that X4 supports fewer pixels in total than previous versions. During the beta-test we never found out why they made this change.

Previous versions had a maximum of 32,767 x 32,767 pixels.

X4 has a maximum of 10,000 x 10,000 pixels.

Annoying if you had larger images that you suddenly want to open in X4. But at the same time as you get larger print sizes the resolution should get smaller so it'll only really get annoying in specific situations.

Hi LeviFiction (a belated thanks for your tutorials on uTube):

One more question--can an X4 file be opened in X3--I thought I had, but now I can't.

TIA

Yes, you can but since X4 defaults to an "X4 compatible" state, you need to click on the options button in the save as dialog box and select PSP X3 Compatible File.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Thanks, Kathy 9. I looked at the various types of files I could save in---never thought of looking at options!
