Helllo,
I have a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS running WinDVD Pro 2010 (ver. 10.0.5.713 which will not accept any of the service packs, so is apparently up to date). When I connect to an external monitor (in this case a Samsung HDTV with 720p res.) via a 1.3 HDMI cable and start a DVD there is a sound like an approaching helicopter and the sound track is muffled. The only way I can get the DVD to play properly is to select the laptop monitor as the only display, start the DVD, then switch to the external monitor as the only display. If I stop or pause the DVD for any reason, I have to go through the above procedure in order to restart the DVD. The DVD will not play correctly if I have both monitors selected as duplicates either.
I installed the WinDVD Pro 2010 on my desktop that is normally connected to the same Samsung via VGA sub-D connection and DVD's play fine, but I don't believe this is really the same as using an external monitor.
Does anyone know how to get WinDVD Pro 2010 to work straight from the external monitor without going through all the above?

Re: Using external monitor w/HDMI connection
I think your problem is related to the "Your display environment does not support protected content playback" error.
This error relates to HDCP copy protection. The error is apparent because your display environment contains more than one output device (i.e. monitor and External Television or other display device).
In order for WinDVD to playback correctly, you need to reduce your environment down to a single output which we recommend to be your main desktop or laptop display. It may be possible to set your external device as the single display but this is not a tested/supported set up in WinDVD.
If you are using Sony Vaio, please select EXTEND and not DUPLICATE when you connect to the HDMI, this way the program will detect your TV and laptop monitor as a siingle display.

Re: Using external monitor w/HDMI connection
I connect to 2nd display via hdmi on all my systems. Never had an hdcp issue. This applies to Sony laptops?

Re: Using external monitor w/HDMI connection
I'm not sure it's the dual monitor that's causing the problem. I only have one monitor and/or display at all (Samsung SMS27A550H) from my PC. I've tried adjusting the screen resolution down to a minimal level as some others have suggested and it still doesn't play. I've heard that it's my monitor that doesn't support HDCP and that there isn't anything I can do?

Re: Using external monitor w/HDMI connection
In my experience if the tv has hdmi in it is hdcp compliant. Even with dvi in it should work but without audio.
I would use extend mode and have the tv as your second display. I do this all the time. Open WinDvd2010 and drag it to the second display. Start your dvd or bd, expand to full screen. I can vouch this works. I do this with MPC, JRiver MC16, TMT and PDVD. Of course with Win2010. Your displays must be an HD resolution.
