Why? I've already got PSP8 installed. There were no serial numbers needed back back then so I don't have one. I do have a copy of the original PSP8 CD as well as the patched version CD but I don't see what point there would be in installing it again.MatsW wrote:Why don't you download the PSP 8 trial and test it. I suppose you should be able to unlock it with your serial number.

The point is that then you could hope to get a functional JPG algorithm. If you can save JPG files in the trial version correctly, then you know that there is a problem with your installation. Perhaps you could copy your "Paint Shop Pro.exe" over the trial version, or copy the trial dll:s to your old PSP8 directory, or whatever. It's worth a try.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 8 JPG bug?
A simpler solution is to just not save any JPGs with PSP8 since I do have other options. I've been saving most of my stuff in PNG format lately anyway. I mainly posted about it here to see if this was a known issue that I hadn't heard about. I suspect that it was known by Jasc but PSP8 is so old now that no one remembers about it anymore.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 8 JPG bug?
Here's another twist in the tale. I wondered if I'd end up with the green dot pattern if I saved a JPG using PSP8's Optimizer and Wizard. Normally the green dots don't show up until I've saved a file and then reopen it. But, when I zoom in close on the preview in the Wizard dialog box, the dots are there even before I've clicked OK to save it.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 8 JPG bug?
I finally had a chance today to try saving a JPG on my friend's computer with PSP8. I got the same green dots that I get on my computer and my husband's computer. There is definitely a bug in PSP8 that apparently no one else ever noticed. I probably never would have noticed it myself if it hadn't been for the strange color setting on my husband's monitor.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 8 JPG bug?
Hello All,
I found this glitch a long time ago. Unfortunately after I had created a bunch of galleries of my favorite show. To say I was upset is a great understatement.
I have thousands of images with these annoying green dots. I have to redo them all
However after a lot of trial and error, I found a way around this annoyance.
What I do is save the images as bmps. Then using Photoshop CS, I created an automated batch script that converts the bmps into jpg images. And Viola! No more green dots!
It's a lot of work, but it does work. And works very well.
Also, sometimes I save images as pngs. Works just as well as a gif or a jpg image.
Hope this works for you as it does for me

Re: Paint Shop Pro 8 JPG bug?
I've switched to saving all of my JPG's as Progressive in PSP8 and I don't get the green dots. I find that most of the time though, I save my images as PNG's so that they don't lose any quality. I almost always use PNG when an image has red in it because JPG does horrible things with red.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 8 JPG bug?
I could not reproduce that effect with my images so I copied your aniversary card png (the correct one) and loaded it into PSP8 10.0 (not upgraded) .
I saved it at different compressions and found that I could see the green dots if saved at compression of 1 or 2 but by 5 they had disappeared. So seems to be a "feature" of minimal compression.
If I saved it at the lossless setting then there were no green dots either so seems to come in (on my system at least ) on compressions of 1 or 2 possibly faint at 3 but after that could not verify. Possibly something to do with the jpg compression algorithm at those low values.
