X4 - Selection tool possible bug?
I'm wondering if this is a bug or what....You know how the tools all have the option to reset to default. I was doing something earlier that required the selection tool and I saw that it had been changed, so I clicked to reset and nothing happened. All my other tools reset just fine. Is it just me or is this a bug?

Which of the selection tools had you chosen? There are three: Selection (with a dotted box icon); Freehand Selection (with what looks like a lassoo) and the Magic Wand. If you click on the little downward point arrow beside the Selection tool, you will see these and can change your choice.

Re: X4 - Selection tool possible bug?
The plain old regular selection tool...If I meant the magic wand or freehand tool, I would have said those....
Hmm...sorry...the way I worded that sounds rude...I don't mean it to be.
All my other tools allow me to reset them. The regular selection tool doesn't do anything when I click to reset it. I just tried it again to see if turning my computer off for the night had any effect and it still doesn't allow me to reset it. I click on "reset to default" and nothing at all happens. It doesn't reset and the pop down box is still there. In the other tools (including the magic wand and freehand tools), when I click reset, I can see it resets the tool and the little box goes away.

Re: X4 - Selection tool possible bug?
None of the selection tools has ever had a reset button that I'm aware of. There isn't one in PSP8 or in X2. In fact, most of the tools on that part of the toolbar don't have a reset option.

Yes there is a "reset to default button" in the selection tool, freehand tool and magic wand tool in X2, X3 & X4. I knew it was in X3 & X4 but I just opened my X2 and it's there too. It works in X2 & X3...and the ones in X4 for the magic wand and freehand tool work. It's just the one for the regular seleciton tool that doesn't work.

Re: X4 - Selection tool possible bug?
I found it, Lisa. It's there in PSP8 and X2 but it's hidden under the Presets.

Yep that's where it is....I just would like to know why it doesn't work in X4 for the regular selection tool...yet it works for everything else. Strange.LindaSue wrote:I found it, Lisa. It's there in PSP8 and X2 but it's hidden under the Presets.

Re: X4 - Selection tool possible bug?
What preset are you using with the selection tool? That's the only thing that I see would reset to default. The reset to default does nothing to my selections with any of the selection modes. Does you selection change when you clock on reset to default?

Re: X4 - Selection tool possible bug?
I'm not using a preset with the selection tool. I needed to use the selection tool the other day and I knew that I had just recently changed the settings for a tutorial I was working on. So I wanted to reset things back to default since I don't exactly remember what the default settings are.jaxman43 wrote:What preset are you using with the selection tool? When I reset the magic wand tool or the freehand tool (or any other tool), it works fine, but the resgular selection tool doesn't change.
I tested by going into X3 and changing the selection tool settings and then hitting reset and they go back to the defaults. In X4 it doesn't do that. Since all the other tools reset as they should, I'm thinking this is a bug.
I know the default setting is rectangle and feather is 0 but I wasn't sure what the default mode was or if anti-alias was checked or not. The reset button should work, it works in X2 & X3...

Anti-aliasing is off by default.
And I confirm that the reset option does not work in X4.

Thanks....The only problem is that I won't remember the default settings...but I can always go to X3 and look at it there.LeviFiction wrote:Anti-aliasing is off by default.

Any idea if this is in fact a bug or if it was done by design? I can't see that they would have left it out on purpose...

There was a similar problem with other areas during the beta. It's most likely this was just missed.

Hopefully they'll get it fixed when they do the first update.LeviFiction wrote:There was a similar problem with other areas during the beta. It's most likely this was just missed.

Please pardon a PSP novice, but in all this thread, there has been no mention of what the selection tool icon turned into -- what new shape it assumed...
