Hi
I have been using VS11+ for a while now and love it - I have the settings and walkthroughs just as Iike them to create my DVDs and am happy not to upgrade at the moment. I have just replaced my laptop though. My old laptop still has the downloaded install files of VS - will I just be able to transder these across via USB stick or whatever and run the set up again - or is there a code / license key I have forgotten all about but will need?
Thanks

Hi Paul
You are correct
To install the program you will need the serial number or activation code.
You should have received this info when you purchased.
If it was an upgrade from an earlier version then you will also need the earlier versions number.
I assume you have saved them in a safe place, at least you still have the downloaded files.
If you registered the program then the serial numbers can be found on your Corel account.
If you did wish to upgrade, as far as I am aware the older VS 11 does not qualify for an upgrade, so you would have to purchase the full version.
You don’t say what operating system you are using, make sure that VS 11 is compatible?
It may help if you update your profile to include your PC details, thanks

VS 11 is not compatible with Windows 7, so if your new computer uses that, then an upgrade might indeed be in order.

Oh no! I didn't even think of that. Yes, my new lappy is of course Windows 7. So that means VS11+ won't run at all? And I have to buy a whole new version?Ken Berry wrote:VS 11 is not compatible with Windows 7, so if your new computer uses that, then an upgrade might indeed be in order.
I guess I could just keep it on the old laptop and use it solely for running VS on - the old laptop was just getting very slow but I could delete everything else to facilitate this. Or, if I do have to buy the whole thing again, is the new version pretty similar in its options etc? It took me ages to work out the set up that works best for me and I am scared of a load of new choices and features that may actually make life harder rather than be of benefit.

Re: Transferring VS to a New Computer
All I can suggest is that you download the trial version of VS X4 and install it on your new laptop to see if you understand it. Its interface is not remarkably different from VS11, but will nonetheless take some getting used to. It also includes a number of new bells and whistles including more overlay tracks and the like, plus some new filters. But most of these affect high definition editing, rather than standard.

Thanks. It looks like that is the only option I have. And there is no discount for an upgrade from VS11+?Ken Berry wrote:All I can suggest is that you download the trial version of VS X4 and install it on your new laptop to see if you understand it. I actually rarely use many of the editing features and tend to simply lay the clips out and render. the set ups I was referring to was to do this - ie format etc. It took a while to get exactly what I wanted. Would I be able to either post my "walkthrough" to the experts (or email it) to see if it would still apply?

I think the upgrade price only runs from X2. And yes, you can post a walk-through here and we'll see if it still largely matches the X4 workflow -- though I suspect it probably will.
