paintshop pro 3

Post by freshmint »

Bot the paintshop pro 3 product a couple of days ago, opened the box, installed it, registered it, and started the learning.

Tried to trim a map as my first task. on feeling i was sufficiently finished, i hit save as.. and the screen went large, white and hung there until i gave up waiting and scrapped that. tried again, worked up to the save as.. and did the same thing. tried opening the program using the icon, same as before, and this time nothing happened. no program. hit the icon on desktop, nothing. went to my programs list and hit it from there. nothing. went to the website looking for updates and such. found the list of patches. dl'ed and got the 5 patches going. went back to the program.

ok must mention, did reboot there as well a few times. i am by no means anything more than a novice with computers. have had friends help with restoring life to windows on the several occasions that it has failed or died or whatnot. recently my windows failed to get past the first signs of life, so i took it to town to get it going. town as in i live very far from the city and 12 miles from a tiny little town. making serious shopping and so on not a casual task. anyroad, it came back with some issues. perhaps that is at the heart of why my paintshop pro is not working, drivers missing? no clue. i couldnt find my vista disk so we used xp bytheway. not happy about that. couldnt find my canon mx700 disk either and my friend found drivers online, got the printer/fax going, but so far the scanner wont work. drivers i think.

also have a new program i recently purchased from nch called videopad. wasted a day trying to learn and upload, and found my problem uploading was because i didnt have something called silverlight and some other video expression something or other. windows movie maker by the way is no longer available for windows xp fyi which si a shame. anyroad, the uploading worked once i moved over to using mozilla. simple solution, of course, but identifying the problem was the problem actually.

am reading here and seeing others are having crash issues and also see some mention they are missing drivers. i read some of the solutions and the solutions and some of the lingo absolutely all go right over my head. no clue. seems you all know what you are talking about, but that leaves me feeling like quite a dummy.

is anyone here likely to help me get paintshop pro to function? i can open the program, but it hangs if i click on things. so actually i am out of pocket 70 dollars and have a nice box a nice disk and icon on desktop and am quite unhappy.

i eventually want to learn how to work with my files and specifically can i make a slideshow for example in paintshop pro, and then transfer it and use it with videopad. also curious about how to put a clip right into a videopad project, for example a cartoon character peeking around a corner just for fun, but all that is less important since i am dealing with a non functioning paintshoppro right now.

thank you for reading!

Welcome to the forums!

I am sure there will be people here who can help with your specific problems. However, I would be interested to know why or how you bought X3 when X4 had already been released.

thank you Ken for your reply and curiousity. i bot what looked like a good program based on the few items on the shelf. i am leery of shopping online. my choices were slim. i chose the corel over the roxio. the roxio had some sort of 3D stuff and was 30 dollars extra, and the corel seemed to be more basic. the corel box mentions HD video projects. sounded ok to me. if they had offered me the 4 as an option i would gladly have purchased it!

once i got it home and saw it wasnt really a video editting program, i was rather disappointed and very reluctantly used the credit card to purchase the nch videopad online. they were both about 70 dollars. the stuff i want to do is based around putting video clips together into a nice clean little film to share with my cousin on youtube who lives in toronto. my camera is nothing fancy, but it has been very nice to work with *sony cybershot tx5.

small update for you.

the save as.. function still crashes the paintshop pro but, i have figured out the program functions do work, and if i enter 2 keys on my keyboard ctrl + print screen, i can open my image up in windows paint, and am able save things from there. i am still a dummy, but atleast i am moving ahead alittle with that.

on a side note, i went to microsoft windows update pages today and triggered some files, including this happened to detect my canon needed something. it wasnt able to give me the proper full monty, however the scanner now opens with corel! image that. does not give me any other options to open scanning, only the corel, but again somehow today we have some progress. am muddling along.

Is the box you bought labelled only Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 or is there also a reference to Corel Video Studio Pro X3 on it? I ask because Corel often boxes the two together... But PSP X4 was released about a month ago now, and VS X4 about 6 months ago. But since you seem to have bought in a shop, I guess you were sadly limited to what the shop had on its shelves.

hi again Ken.

no mention of video pro. there are two items tho ie., the paintshop pro, with the bonus item of painterphoto essentials 4. havent yet gotten to that with all these other challenges.

i cant see where this hd video projects is, to which the box is referring. could this mean slideshow? who knows.

no video editting that i can see, and editting is what i thot was included, and is why i bot this in the first place, actually.

struggling with very simplistic functions. not anywhere near to understanding how to do the things i should do. ask me in a month if i have given up or found my way to somewhere.

maybe i will have figured something useful out by then!
