PSP X4 can't open .cdr files that X3 can
I've been given a .cdr file to use. I can't open it in X4, but X3 opens it. Not sure if it's opening it correctly, but it's opening it. X4 just comes up with an "unsupported file type" error. Did Corel drop support for .cdr files in X4? Just curious.

Re: PSP X4 can't open .cdr files that X3 can
It looks like Corel dropped .cdr files from PSP X4. I tried opening a .cdr file, both with X3 and X4, and I got the same error you did from X4. It opened in X3.
I also checked the list of supported file types for X4, and .cdr files were not among them.
Related to this, however, is that files created by newer versions of CorelDRAW, maybe newer than version 10?, won't behave properly even in X3. I'll see if I can look up the thread where this was discussed.
Edit: This is the thread I mentioned: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=40365

Re: PSP X4 can't open .cdr files that X3 can
I had the person who sent me the .cdr file recopy it as a file "for Corel Draw 9 or earlier" as I had seen that thread you mentioned before as well. He replied back with a save as a Corel Draw 5 file. It still didn't open in PSP X4. I'm just glad I still have X3 to work with it. I guess I could save it as a PSP file in X3 to convert to X4, but this just makes me leery about buying X4.

PSP has never been able to open Corel Draw files since version 10 and the import filter in File -Open was left by chance. It has been now removed in X4.
I work for the Corel UK Support. I will not give technical support through this forum and my answer is only related to this thread.

But the same file will open in X3. Is this by design?Simone Corel UK wrote:PSP has never been able to open Corel Draw files since version 10 and the import filter in File -Open was left by chance. It has been now removed in X4.

Re: PSP X4 can't open .cdr files that X3 can
Technically. Like Simone said even though they stopped supporting CorelDraw files a few versions back they just never removed the filter. When doing a clean-up of their file formats for X4 they included a couple and removed quite a few. CD4 was one of those formats.
For whatever reason they don't want all of their products to talk to each other in one way or another.

OK, thanks for the confirmation it's not a bug.

Re: PSP X4 can't open .cdr files that X3 can
Example with Draw X4 and PSPX2
We had the same topic when PSPX3 came out.
What file ever can be opened in PSPX3 and not in X4, it's no Corel Draw file but maybe one of the others:

If you still want to open that CDR file that you have, you can download the trial of Corel Draw and open it from there. You can visit www.corel.com/trials to download the trial

You also might be able to use UniConverter to open them. It won't be as good as using CorelDraw itself but at least it's free and you won't lose the ability to open CDR files in 30 days.
