PROBLEM WITH AUDIO IN X3 breaking up

Post by raejohn »

Hi, I have been attempting to make a small movie in X3. I mainly have JPG files with small clip of .MOV. I can insert the mov files into the time line and review the clip with everything appearing OK until such time as I either crop, add transisition, add background music or even just try to watch the movie - then I just get broken sounds from the clip/s. Both JPG and Mov were taken on my OLYMPUS 510UZ camera uploaded onto my computer using Picasa which in turn uses Quick Time to save the movie sections. I have made several X3 movies in the past without any of this problem. I contacted Corel support and they advised me to uninstall Quick Time and instal 7.5 version but the web address they gave me was a cfs one which I have never seen before and I was unable to download it. They then gave me another web address and I installed 7.6 (presume that this is probably the 7.59 one) but this has not altered anything. Any clues?? I will attempt to attach the clip properties and can also send screen shots of the project preferences if you need them. Hope you can help me.Rae

Some VS users have trouble with .mov files, depending on the version of Quicktime they have on their computer. I can't for the moment remember which version was installed with X3 but if you have updated it, then reverting to the original version often fixes things.

However, in your case, I am wondering if your breaking up problems may have more to do with the properties of your .mov files. You will have noted that the framerate is 15 fps. But if you are viewing in Project mode or rendering to a new file for burning to a DVD, the PAL framerate of 25 fps will be applied. In other words, ten new frames per second will be invented out of thin air -- or rather, will probably be duplicated from existing frames. As you will imagine, this alone will cause the video to look jerky and probably break up the audio as well.

I know this will not help with your existing footage, but for future work, does your Olympus menu allow you to vary the video bitrate up to 25 fps?

You can visit http://www.oldversion.com/QuickTime.html for a list of download for different version of Quicktime but if Ken is correct no matter what version of Quicktime you download you still have issue.

Hi I am sorry but I cannot fine anywhere where I can change the video bitrate settings in my camera. I have had absolutely no problems in the past the movies have always come out so clearly as far as the audio is concerned and I have only ever used this camera. I have reset my camera to default settings, taken another short clip, added it to X3 and have had the same problem. I am concerned that maybe the Quick Time is still not correct as you did say QT was included in X3 program??? As instructed by Corel I uninstalled QT from my programs list then Corel told me to instal from the website: ftp://coreluser-d:Dmf38eT6@cfs.corel.co ... kTime7.zip and when I was unable to instal from here was given the following website:http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net ... taller.exe. This is the one I now have installed and it is 7.6 which I presumed was the 7.59 older version. Do you have any more suggestions???? Would any of the settings within the preferences be incorrect - 5.1 sound???? I am clutching at straws at the moment I have to admit.

If Corel advised you to update to a more recent version of Quicktime, then I think they were wrong. Most people find that .mov files only work with the version of QT which comes with VS. So you should reinstall that.

Hi Ken, I thought the cfs site they wanted me to instal from was 7.5 QT but when I could not instal it they advised another which downloaded as 7.6. I am not sure where I am now. Something interesting for you though, I put the clips in X2 and they are fine!!!!!!!! Does that tell you anything??? Are you able to tell me which version came with X3???

No -- but X2 uses whatever version of QT you have on your computer. It cannot as far as I am aware have multiple versions. So I am afraid all I can suggest is that you use X2 to convert your mov files into whatever format you want eventually, then add the new files in X3 for editing...

Thanks again. You do not suggest that I uninstal X3 and reinstal as I had used them many times on X3 in the past???
I will wait and see what Corel come up with. It is very strange.

Well, I suppose reinstalling X3 would be one way of reinstalling its version of QT. But you could also use the link given by Abiel above to reinstall just the earlier version of QT (7.5?).

Forgive me if I'm mixing apples with oranges, but I began immediately having audio problems with VS X3 myself once I installed SP2 last November.

I'm wondering whether raejohn has just installed SP2 and if this issue has appeared as a result of that upgrade.

Perhaps you should consult first with Abiel, but last I checked, Corel had a "hot fix" that is supposed to address the audio glitches with .mov files and SP2 of VS X3. The file could be found at: ftp://coreluser-d:corel%2702@emeaftp.co ... SK3329.exe

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tips. I have had SP2 installed for ages and this problem has only just happened. I went onto Corel site to see if I was missing any updates and it said if you went into "About " at the top right hand corner it would give you the version that is installed and it said that any with the number 13.6.2 or later were up to date (I took this to mean - up to date as far as all the updates are concerned?). Mine is 13.6.2.69. I hope that Abiel looks at your suggestions though, maybe you are right??
I will wait until after the weekend to see if there are any more suggestions or even a reply from Abiel. Tah! Ken, I am sorry I did not notice you had replied also, until now. Yes I can do as Abiel said and instal the older version of QT - He did not say what version but Corel had said 7.5. There is a 7.5 and a 7.55 so I guess I will just have to uninstal again and try them one at a time. Thanks, Rae

Hi again, Just a quick note to let you know that I have installed the update suggested and uninstalled and reinstalled 7.5 as Abiel suggested all to no avail. I will await further advise before I uninstal X3.

Hi no my sound does not sound like the you tube sample. Now, having said that I went into your sample again and just left it playing - after it went through once it began to play again and this time it was exactly as mine is. What does that tell you???
Hi I went onto the you tube site and read what was said - you had suggested that X3 be uninstalled and reinstalled without the sp2 update. Is Corel aware of the problem??? I did notice that that example showed his version as 13.6.2.36 and mine is 13.6.2.69 so is this the version number once sp2 has been installed???? Funny the problem has only just begun now though when I have had sp2 for a while. I had noticed before that every now and then there was a bit of glitch in the music on previous movies but not as distorted as this "heart beat". Perfectly discribed! Where to now - any clues?

Hi

I think the original poster was Candy who described it as like a heart beat.

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=39830

I do not know if Corel support has been informed of this issue. I had moved on to X4 before we found the problem. Corel will not fix problems with older products. So once X4 was released there will be no fixes for X3. I’m not saying they won’t give you advice but as for a software fix, I doubt it very much.

By the way the final rendered files should play ok.

The problem was hard to describe so to help I rendered the Youtube sample.

I can only suggest that you reinstall without installing the patch. If you use DVD MF7se then simply leave that installed.

At the moment I have X3 installed without patches, serial ----13-6-0-272

Youtube
Sorry for the confusion on playback the first half is without sound problems, then repeats with the problem, you have to watch the Youtube curser not the VS timeline curser.
