PSP X4 jpg error

Post by kazza248 »

I have installed my PSP X4 and from what i see it looks great, faster loading, but every time i click on a jpg i get the error message "an error has occurred while trying to read from the file"
i have looked in preferences and found nothing, i have reset it, and also tried ctr F8, but still cant get my jpgs to show to use them, is anyone else experiencing this problem, can anyone help solve it.

i have used PSP since about v5 and never had a problem like this before

Thanks

YES I AM...exactly the same message
See my thread "no Images at all in Organiser"
The only way I can cure it is as follows but after a while it plays up again..
Jpg’s are sometimes not populating the Organiser and if they do after constant restarts and deleting the cache in File-Preferences-Reset Preferences it will work for a while before I get the same error message when moving to Edit.

Corel Support said this but it made no difference. I am on Windows 7 home 32BIt

Install the latest driver of your video card. You will find the latest driver from your video card manufacturer site. Check if you are running the latest video drivers for your video card. If you have an older version, download the latest video driver (a reboot may be required).

For NVIDIA users, get the latest driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

For AMD-ATI users, get the latest driver here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

For Intel users, get the latest driver here: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm

After doing so, re-install the program completely. Observe if the problem still persist.

IT DOES.

Did you find that a bmp file worked OK ? Just JPG causing the problem ?
I was told that SHIFT/F8 would sort it but I would be interested to know what Shift +F8 does for other users.
All it seems to do for me is remove and then replace the Navigation Pane on the left of the screen in the Manage Tab.
It doesnt seem to reset anything ?
File-Preferences-Reset preferences at least brings up the dialogue box.If I empty the cach and restart it is OK but only for a while

For the record can nearly always get the jpg images showing in MANAGE but when I EDIT or ADJUST for 50% of the time I am getting the message
"An error has occurred while trying to read the file"
50% of the time it works correctly so there has to be something wrong.

bmp worked fine as does png, its only jpg files that there is a problem with and as 99% of my pictures are jpg i need it to work to edit them, shift f8 does the same for me too, i tried deleting cache, and yes it does work, but dont want to do that every time i want to use it, lets hope Corel gets it fixed soon

I suggest you raise it as a support issue as it seems to be only a minority of us new users that are getting this problem.
I actually thought that X4 would have been OK after all the problems I had with X3 which I finally uninstalled and went back to good old JASC Paint Shop Pro version 7 which has sailed through all the Windows versions to Windows 7 without a hitch.
Yes png files work OK on mine too.
tif files which I use a lot in tone mapping have the same problem as jpg's. Not visible in Organiser just a light grey box with a X in the middle most of the time unless I continually refresh the cache.

@kazza248

I can definitely open JPG file on my PSP X4 without any problem. Can you answer a number of question, so that we can isolate the problem.

Can you tell me if the photo that you are opening the jpgs saved on an external drive or saved on your hard drive?

The error "an error has occurred while trying to read from the file" happens on all the JPG file that you are opening or just particular ones?

Can you go to HELP > ABOUT... > then tell me what is the build number of your PSP X4?

Thank you for that and it appears that we have the same build number of PSP X4. You may need to reinstall the program.

You can uninstall the program via ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS from the CONTROL PANEL then reinstall by downloading a new installer.

There's really very big bug in X4 right now. If I open .tif file and try to save it to .jpg, it actually saves it to selected location. But the file size is about 8kb and file is corrupted, so it won't open. Somehow saving doesn't work. But if I open .jpg file and save it as .jpg this works correctly. Strange, really really strange. If I however save .jpg through image optimizer as .jpg saving works correctly. Is there some bug when dealing with big files?

This is so sad, I have full X3. I removed it from my computer and wished to start using new X4 right away. And then this really annoying bug comes to light.

Really we are talking here some silly bug, which should have been found in initial testing of the program. This bug virtually renders whole program unusable for me.

I just noticed that if I open .tif file and save it to .jpg format and also from options I disable to include EXIF information with image, saving image works correctly.

So it seems, that there's bug in saving EXIF information.

@terbox

Because you are currently the only one with that bug, could you share your Exif data with us?
Where do the Exif data come from and what do they contain?
Where does the tiff come from?

I am in the same boat. Long time user of PS decided to upgrade to X4 by buying CD version from local supplier. Instal went OK but then discovered error when trying to open JPG's. Still have version 3 working OK. Tried reinstall from CD - no improvement. Deinstalled and downloaded "trial version" from Corel site. Installed this and still have the same error when trying to open JPGs???

For all who experience this problem
every time I click on a jpg I get the error message "an error has occurred while trying to read from the file"
this is not the program, it is your system in connection with what you want to open in PSPX4.

The solution is definitely not to install and remove PSPX4 several times, but to contact either the support team in your country and tell them

- what hardware, program was used to create them,
- what program was used to edit them, look into Exif data: right-click on a JPG "Properties" -> last tab "Details",
- are they connected to any other program in Windows,
- is there any kind of Nikon, Canon, Sony etc. software installed on you system and does this software has priority to open your JPGs,
- does it happen with Microsoft sample images, too ?

I can send you sample .tif image. Can I send it via e-mail for example? Please provide information where to send it.

fergujoc - before going through all my jpg sources I tried to open the jpg templates provided with this release - X4 will not open them either
