Error 4: files have been damaged or modified

Post by FreoFan »

I downloaded the free trial of the VideoStudio Pro X4 a month ago and was so impressed that I went out and bought it! Then, after downloading SP!, it encountered a problem and stopped working. It was just a matter of restarting the application but it happened more and more over the weekend, meaning I lost work which I hadn’t saved. So I decided to uninstall the free trial version and install from the disk and it worked fine for a while but I then got a problem with my security program.
Not sure whether it was due to the Corel installation or just coincidence.
I did a system restore to fix the problem with the security program and since then I have been unable to access VideoStudio and get the message: Error 4: Corel VideoStudio files have been damaged or modified. Please reinstall your original source. But when I try I get the message: “Setup.xml could not be loaded. This may indicate that the file is corrupt”.
I have tried to uninstall it but get the same message.
How can this be fixed?

Hi Robert

and welcome to the forums

First suggestion is you perform a manual uninstall, the Corel Knowledge Base gives these details

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the welcome, the fast response and the solution.
I searched the knowledge base but couldn't find it, sorry.
I also tried to get an answer from the support on the Corel website but after submiting the query was told that, on the one hand, "my case had been created" and, on the other, "Case creation failed". What's with that? (it hadn't been created at all but don't know why!)
Anyway, thanks again and I'll know where to come in future.

Hi Robert

Glad you managed to get working.

The search options I find quite difficult, it usually takes a few attempts to find what I am looking for.

I am getting the same error message, (except that is says error 1 instead of 4 - not sure if that makes any difference) and I have tried both the cleanup tool and doing the manual uninstall (which I found confusing because I didn't have all the file locations, but I figured that was because of the cleanup tool doing most of the file deleting)

I have used this product at work an downloaded the trial and then upgraded to the full version and had no problems doing so. I wanted to use the trial at home and I have uninstalled multiple times, used the clean up tool multiple times and still to no avail. I now get an error message when running the cleanup and it brings up the uninstall wizard for VSX4, which then notifies me its missing a component and the wizard can't complete the uninstall.

I'm wondering where to go from here,

Thanks,

- Ryan
