x2 & x3 seem to be corrupted

Post by raejohn »

Hi I have x2 & x3pro Video studio programs installed on my computer. Corel informed me that this was OK as they are stand alone products, however they seem to have become intermingled. When I save a project in X3 as My Projects Video Studio Pro 13 it saves as X2 and the templates of X2 come up in X3 with X3's templates???? I have now encountered a new problem when I tried to insert a small movie clip (taken on my digital camera) into a movie, the audio is fine if I just review the clip but if I try to shorten it or even add background music or even a transisition before or after it, the audio on the clip is all disjointed and broken. The clip was downloaded direct to Picasa and My pictures as Quick Time. At one stage the program crashed and a dump report was sent (to Corel I believe). I wondered if perhaps I should uninstall both programmes and reinstall them using the safe method given on the Corel website. What do you think??? Is there a site where I can re-download x2 from?? Also have sent a email to Corel 2 days ago but have not yet received any confirmation and when I try to view the status of my question I get the message that the website is not available and it is unsafe??

Hi

First can you update your profile to include your computer details. This will help us in replying to you.
The question regarding X2 v X3 maybe PC related.

VSP Document
When save a project you can view the file via Windows Explorer, this will give you a description of the file. The Type may show as Corel Video Studio Document, I think different Operating Systems may describe this differently, hence the request to update your profile.

If you have more than one Video Studio version installed then the Type may not show as the current version, They may all show as --- Corel Video Studio 12.0 Document -- this is not a problem. To open a VSP, first open Video Studio then File – Open Project.

You have also asked a few more questions regarding your video file, can I ask you to start a new post regarding this issue. We will need a lot more info regarding your video files properties
Can you read the Please Read Before Posting, link below, will give you an idea of what we are looking for.

Thank you Trevor, Yes, it is in Windows Explorer where the Video Studio x3 is saved as x2. I know I can access this by opening up either x2 or x3 and Open File and there it is. I thought that this was an error but you seem to imply that all is OK. I have updated my profile as best I can and will post a new topic re my other problem. Regards Rae

Hi Rae

Thanks foe updating your profile.
I am also using XP so can compare what you see.

Not so much an error than an oversight on Corel’s part?
Its more annoying that your X3 VSP files show in Windows Explorer as “Corel Video Studio 12 Document” I have X4 and they also show as 12.

If Corel had named them as “Corel Video Studio Document” then maybe you wouldn’t have noticed. However double clicking the VSP opens or tries to open the earlier version., in our case VS 12, at least that is what happens to me.
I always open my projects from the VS program-File Open Project.
Also if you select File there should be the last 4 used at the bottom of the list.

----------------------------------------------

Using VS 3 you can save the project to be opened in X2, if that’s what you need. (backward compatibility)
File Save As—in the Save as Type choose the X2 Project Files
I would suggest that you add X2 to the file name, that way you can identify which program it is associated to.

---------------------------------

Hope that helps

This might be more of an OS registry entry that is not updated when installing newer versions. So your OS is still associates the VSP extension with VS X2. A couple of ways to counter-act this.

1. Create a separate folder for your VS X4, VS X3 and VS X2 VSP files. Save each under the appropriate folder.
2. When naming your VSP file, tack on the version number for example, vsx4_myvacation.vsp. I use this one since I have numerous versions installed.

It appears that this is a problem with file association. VSP files may still be associated with VS X2, since VS X2 and X3 project files are the same .VSP files. You can try and reassociate the .vsp file to VS X3 and you can do that by following these steps.

Right-click on the *.vsp file then select OPEN WITH... then select the VideoStudio Pro X3 icon, make sure that you place a checkmark on the ALWAYS USE THE SELECTED PROGRAM TO OPEN THIS KIND OF FILE. Then click on the OK button for the settings to take effect.

Once done every time you double-click on a .vsp file, it will automatically open on VS X3.

Hi and thanks guys. I am glad it is not just me. I think I will leave well enough alone on the saving side. Now you have my profile would I have huge problems if I were to purchase the X4 and would I have to delete any of the others. I like X2 and X3 and maybe adding X4 would be too much for my computer??? While on the subject of saving projects, is it OK to save your project onto the external drive to save the computer being slowed down and then just open it from there????

The project file is just a small text file, so really it does not matter if you save that to your hard drive. But it is the video files in the project which take up the space. Yes, you can certainly save them to an external hard drive, but you just have to remember to have it turned on before you open the associated project file in VS. Otherwise, you will get lots of blank squares in the timeline and requests to relink.
