Can VSx4 do these 2 things

Post by dawg »

Hi,
nice to see a support forum here

Just 2 quick questions

I have a Canon 7D camera uses AVC.MOV (My VSx2 will not import these files)

will X4 import and work with these file types and burn to DVD ? (I will not be exporting to MOV though, dont care about MOV anyways)

Can I check my mail while X4 is rendering something, like can X4 be minimised off the desktop ?

I sure hope MOV AVC is doable, if not I'll just need to wait for X5, unfortunately :( :( :(

Welcome to the forums, :)

Just answered another post that was very similar. VS X4 is capable of importing *.MOV files. Yours, like the other one, uses the H.264 codec. VS does recognize this codec, however uses the MPEG-4 wrapper.

To burn DVDs (since the invention of hi-def) refers to Standard Def video DVDs, you must convert them to DVD Compliant MPEG-2 anyway so even if you did "care about" MOV, the conversion must be done.

Can you check your email? Depends on how much you load up your system while it's trying to do the most resource intensive tasks, such as rendering. It would appear that you have a powerful enough PC to do this.

Hi Ron,
thanks for the prompt reply :)

you said:

Um, what conversion ?

Is it easy to do, like is it built in to the software ?

Um, what conversion ?
The conversion to DVD-compatible MPEG-2.

Video Studio should do the conversion automatically if you are making a standard video DVD. However, some variations of these formats can sometimes give Video Studio trouble. So, you'll just have to try it with the files from your camera.

Hi

Why do you say VS 12 (.X2) cannot open these files.

I also have a Canon 7D and am able to open these video files in X2.

The program doesn’t fully recognise the full properties of the video file buts that’s all versions.
It’s a MOV H264 issue.
If you right click a clip and select Properties, the window shows the property details, notice that the Compression is empty, it should read H264

There is however no problem and you will be able to re-code/render the files to DVD Mpeg2.

The camera has four quality settings can you give details of the clips properties, as above right click and select properties

Too late !

I got X4 rendering right now

WONDERFUL :)

Bah, I tried this and that, couldn't get X2 going with MOV 264 it crashes soon into the render..

I tried a few other trial vid edit apps but none could match the simplicity and technical elegance of Video Studio X4 !

And yes that includes apps that cost more. The law of the jungle..

After stuffing around for days with trials (some programs are total hogwash) I came back to X4 as it works for me as X2 did, I'm not going back now

Anyone want a bargain price on a 2nd hand copy of X2 ???

just kidding :)

Kudos to you engineers who really dont have their heads up their you know what..

The GUI is such a no brainer, and really, its all there ready to work, & its been cleaned up

Hah ! 92% complete while I was doing this post..2.3 gig

All done, like a dinner,

regards,
Adrian
