Rendering completed but no file is created!

Post by Roberto »

VS X4 Ultimate still has a very annoying bug that I noticed already in VS X3.
Here it is.

I have a very simple project: 1 AVCHD clip (1920x1080, 25fps, interlaced), preceded by a simple title on black background and followed by another title on black background.
The clip and the 2 titles are connected by transitions (standard transition provided by VSX4).
No effects are used.
The audio of the clip is muted and a WAV file is placed in an audio track.
I rendered into AVCHD interlaced 1920x1080 (the standard template from Corel) and I can see a place-holder of the final file in Windows Explorer: the file has size 0KB because the VSX4 is currently editing it.
At the end of the rendering, the file disappear! NO file is created and VSX4 gives NO error message.
Notice that the same behavior did not happen with another video clip, same characteristic (I just used the same project and replaced the video clip).
The other video clip is taken from the same camera, with no different setting, and imported to the PC at the same time.
Also, on the PC there is enough space to store the rendered file.

This is the part that mostly piss me off: I can accept that could exist some issue with the video clip, or the chosen transition, or whatever else... but what I can't really digest is that if anything goes wrong, the SW creates no file without reporting any error message, like if everything were ok.
Abiel, if you read this post, please let me know what do you think about.

I realise you should get an icon of the new video in the library window. But have you checked your working folder (Preferences > General) to see if there is a new file created there with the date and time you produced yours?

No icon was created.
Anyway, I rebuilt the project from scratch (being it quite simple) and then the file was finally created.
Again, the issue is that something went wrong and VS did not report anything.
The SW programmer should check all the possible reason that prevents the file from being created and display an error message accordingly.

While I understand your frustration, there are a million possible reasons why something goes wrong. And no software programmer is going to be able to take account of all of them, or even necessarily imagine all of them. Quite often, problems occur because something does not quite work out right between the software and the particular architecture of a specific computer. No one can program something that will work 100% on 100% of computers, try though they may...
