Post by KOBRA76 »

When I drag the project to the timeline Smart Proxy does his job and I see his mark on the files. But as I leave the program and inter again later the check of proxy is gone and I had to drag the files agine to do the process Again. What should I do that the files remain always marked with a proxy mark

I am getting just a little bit tired of your lack of patience. This web board is staffed by volunteers. We all have lives and jobs other than this board. We make our time available to help users, but you cannot expect immediate responses to your queries each and every time you post. Moreover, people will only answer if they think they have an answer. But we are not Corel employees available to answer each and every question just because you want it.

I don't happen to use SmartProxy as I don't need to. But I believe that once you have created SmartProxy files, you have to leave the program open and do all your editing on the proxy files while they are open. It is my understanding that the proxy files disappear when you close the program -- though I would be quite happy to be proved wrong.

If you want immediate answer to your problem, I suggest that you call the Corel Tech Support either on the phone or via the chat support. Since problem posted here can remain unanswered for days until someone which with the answer can read your post.

Anyway... smart proxy files are just temporary files are deleted when the program is closed and restarted, at this time I do not know if there is a way to keep them if you restart your VideoStudio.

You can find the tech support number in your area at http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... ne-numbers

A better way to create proxy files is to create your own by loading the HD files into the time line then batch convert to a lower resolution. Then clear the timeline and insert the proxy files do all of your editing using these proxy files. When you are ready to create your final disc or video file rename the folder with the low resolution files and then open the project file Video studio will ask to re-link to the video files and then all you do is re-link to the HD files. Hey presto.

Letting Video studio create your proxy files is useless if you want to edit in more than one session and that session is closed between edits or the program crashes (god forbid).

The only problem I have had is sometimes the smart re-link function does not work as well as it should. You should perform a test before you start to ensure there are no problems.

Hi

Smart Proxy files.

A little explanation….
The Proxy Files once created do not get removed automatically, we have to remove them ourselves.

The proxy file name will reflect the original video files name, and is virtually linked to that original file.
So if you start a new project and add a video file (that has an existing Proxy File) then the proxy files do not need creating again, it already exists and will be used.

The thumbnail in the timeline and library show a double icon to indicate Proxy files exist.
-----------------------------------
The proxy files only need creating once.
------------------------------------
There have been problems for some users where the proxy files were removed when closing Video Studio, but this is abnormal, I cannot remember if the issue was fixed.
But proxy files should remain on the hard drive till we remove them.

If they magically disappear then you have a problem with the program.

What's interesting is that sometimes it is retained even after I leave the program and in some situations it is deleted, that's what annoys me

Hi

Proxy files do take a while creating, make sure the Smart Proxy Queue manager is empty before you close the program

Hi

Proxy files can be quite large in some cases above 4 Gb.
That poses the question regarding your hard drives are they using NTFS or Fat32.
The latter having a 4 Gb file size limit, this would affect the creation of large proxy files
