PSPx2 reinstall problem

Post by Wilco »

I have just tried to reinstall my copy of X2 on my new PC, it was fine at first but the trial countdown started to appear when loading.
The trial countdown has now reached 0 days and I can no longer load X2.
I have done a complete uninstall including scrubbing the registry, re-installed, but get the same result.
I even downloaded a fresh copy of the file from Corel along with the serial number and it still doesn't work.
What is even more frustrating is that I'm not even using a trial version!

If anyone has any ideas, all welcome.

If you are installing PSP X2 on Windows 7, then that could be the problem. since PSP x2 is not fully compatible with Windows 7. You can visit http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... patibility, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.

There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.

You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows

You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx.

You also want to consider upgrading your Corel software, since PSP X4 is full compatible with Windows 7, you can download the 30 day full working trial at http://www.corel.com/trials.

You shouldn't have any problem with it in W7 even though Corel say it isn't compatible..
Myself and a lot of my psp friends disagree and have told Corel so..
I had the same problem after I bought X2 a couple of months agao..
mine wasn't a trial version..but it kept saying only so many days left..
After about 21 days up came a notice to activate it..
Corel gave the activation number plus a new serial number..
Get on to Corel to give you a new installation with new serials and activation code..
When they do completely remove your copy also the psp files in your documents
remove all trace of it..
Did you do that when you recived the new one..
perhaps that is the problem

Both of these ideas are not going to get me anywhere! The option to download XP Mode is only open to these who possess Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate!

I have tried uninstalling every bit of Corel software on my Pc and gone through my registry with a fine tooth comb and deleted every reference to Corel, re-installed PSP X2 and still get the error.

I have had X2 running fine under Win7 for over a year before this problem reared its ugly head so why the problem now?

I think Filly has the right idea and obtain a new serial key, I don't see why I should go to the expense of upgrading to a newer version when the old one was working fine!

Do you know the serial number, if not login to your corel account and view your registered products.
Assuming you have registered when you purchased?

When you installed the X2 did you not get the option to insert your serial number, if not during installation then while using the trial you can normally click “Already Purchased” which as far as I know takes you to an activation screen.

I did a search of the knowledge base and found this info, may be useful?

This is all very odd, I was just about to uninstall it all again but thought to try running the program one more time. This time the Activate Now button came up (for the first time) so I went through the activation process and hey presto, it is all working now.
It must have been the threat, to my Pc, of going over to Photoshop that did it

Anyway, all's well that ends well, thanks for the advice,

Mike
