I go-image-resize-resample-unncheck resize all layers-set new value via % (tried 400%)-lock aspect ratio in a jpeg image.but not much happens, I want to try and double the size, where am I going wrong?

could it be that the image is resizing, but then it's zooming out?

You are doing the correct steps and just like what flagpole mention, you may want to check if you are currently zoomed-out.

Think I need some more detailed guidance here, I have adjusted parameters, only to get part of image enlarged and viewable, have zoomed in and out with no joy.Even got a message saying I did not have enough memory to complete the operation.Can any one give me a step by step work flow please.For example, how to double the size of the image.

That's because you unchecked "Resize all layers". If you want to resize the whole image, including all layers, you must check that box.

I have not done any work on the image, so if I understand correctly, there are no layers.

Just curious - how large is the image that you are attempting to increase by 400%?

The original image is 3x5inches, I did not really want to increase it by 400%, I used that figure in desparatrion when there was no response from what I was doing as described above.I just wanted to double its size but nothing worked.

Since you are talking in terms of inches, I'm guessing you are trying to alter the print size. If so, have you unchecked the box that says "maintain original print size"?

The "maintain original print size " box has never been shown as checked.I have tried increasing the pixel size and %, nothing happens apart from a message saying that I do not have enough memory and close other applications.Doing so only gets a repeat message.If it makes any difference, this image is a scanned print imported via PSPro X.Has the drop down list under "smart size" got any bearing on this problem ?(bicubic,bilinear,pixel resize and weighed average)

I have successfully re-sized images that were scanned/imported via PSP with no problem, so I don't think that is what's causing your dilemma. As far as the drop down box goes mine defaulted to bicubic and I've never messed with it.

Just for the heck of it, have you tried shutting down PSP and rebooting your computer to free up memory?

As it happens I have done that, with 4 gig of ram I cant see how this can be a memory problem,but thanks for the replies

What is the Resolution (dpi) of your scanned image?
Either check in Windows Explorer File Properties or
PSP Image Information (JPEG Information) via Shift+I in Edit Mode.

Also, what does the Overview Palette in Edit Mode tell you is the Memory used?

"Pixels per inch 91000" looks suspicious.
Is your scanner set to a very high scan resolution?
Where does the "Output resolution (dpi) of scanned image is 300" come from?

I suspect your image is very large in PSP (618Mb)
Typically my photos are about 55Mb.
