From reading all the messsages about slow start up time and cataloging and all the other things slowing PSP down. Perhaps Corel should consider the streamlined start up as a default in an update or all future versions. ie, default is Edit mode, no cataloging, no organiser, no other "features" and let users "opt in" if they want the changes.
THey could have a splash screen with instructions on how to disable it, showing another page / link on how they can add remove other features.
This way the first experience for a lot of new people would be a positive one.
The old timers know how to cut off the excess fat and set up the program they way they want it to run.
I have been running PSP 8, X2, X3, X4 on the same machines under XP and Windows Home with no long start up problems.
If a problem occurred I would be more likely to blame a conflict with that other program I just installed or that recent update that microsoft installed rather than throw hands in air and shoot PSP X4.
The program does run well for a huge number of users so those that are having problems may have something different with their systems, some conflicting program, some corrupted drivers, hard disk problems, external hard disk problems or some other inconsistency.
X4 takes 5 minutes to boot up.
