Help! Videos not looking sharp.
I have a Sony HXR-MC50U HD camera. I have been recording videos and then transferring them to my computer using the USB cord. They are in the AVCHD format. I use VS X4 to edit my movies. The video plays great when on the camcorder, however when I transfer it to the computer something happens. In scenes where I "Pan" I sometimes get what can be described as a "squiggle" that runs in the middle of the screen. Sometimes there is more than one of them. The squiggle looks sort of like when cinemax late night is squiggled out.. It is a blurry line that runs across the middle of the screen. This "squiggle" will then transfer to any output file that I select. Whether I choose HD AVI or HD WMV, it still does it..
Am I dong something wrong?

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
I am moving this to the Video Studio forum as it is more appropriate there and more likely to attract responses.

Thanks! I wasn't sure where to post it because I am not 100% certain that the issue is with VideoStudio or me.. lol

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
You'd be surprised how many problems reported here often turn out to have more to do with the user than with the program!

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
There can are a lot of reason why this is happening. For the benefit of us all, can you post the properties of the video that you are working on? Also does this happens on all the video that you are editing on VS X4 no matter where it came from?

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
O.k. I have attached a JPEG of the properties. I uploaded a sample clip to youtube and wouldn't you know it, it doesn't have the same issue. I don't know what it is now, I tried to provide a screen shot however, whenever I paused it, it went away. UUUUGH!! lol.. That is making me wonder if it has something to do with my video card.

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Right now, I am at a loss as to what to do. Could it be that my video card is just unable to handle it? I play the video on the camcorder and it is fine. It doesn't have the horizontal line through it. When I uploaded it to youtube, it didn't have the lines through it. But, if I save it as a HD file on my computer it will have it.

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
Hi
It may be as simple as an interlacing issue
Your video uses Frame Based, converting to MPEG4 or Flash for YouTube will use Frame Based.
Other options you have used may use Upper Field first?
When you convert to other formats are you keeping the same frame size.
You don’t give any details of the rendered faulty files, I assume the screen shot is of the original video……..
So what are you trying to make with your video:-
DVD?
Video for the internet?

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
The screen shot is of the converted video that I saved. I am new to all of this so please bear with me if I don't understand or explain things correctly. I thought interlacing was essentially two pictures on top of each other. My issue is that the picture is clear except for one or two horizontal lines that run across the screen and causes a "blur".trevor andrew wrote:Hi

When I uploaded to youtube I changed the frame size to 720. Where can I go to read about upper field? I actually want to do both. I want to make DVD's and upload to the internet. The perfectionist in me won't let me do anything with a product that has this issue.

The question needs to be asked, though, whether it *is* the product which has the issue since you are the only user to my knowledge who has reported the issue...The perfectionist in me won't let me do anything with a product that has this issue.

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
Ken, please forgive my terminology. When I said "product" I meant MY finished product. Not VS X4.. I meant that I can't burn a DVD or upload a video if it is going to have that issue. The DVD or uploaded video being the product.. I should have explained a little better.

Re: Help! Videos not looking sharp.
Now that I look at your camcorder's specifications -- from a Sony website http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-nxca ... -HXRMC50U/ -- I am intrigued as to how you captured in 1280 x 720p. According to Sony, it doesn't have that format. These are what Sony says it can produce:
So although you say you used a USB cable, it would be useful to know step by step what you did, and what else you used, to capture the video. Did the camera come with its own software to transfer the video to computer, for example?
I am also wondering which of the above qualities the camera was set in its menu to produce. Can you look up the camera's menu for that, please? Whatever has happened, if it is indeed in 1280 x 720p format somehow or other when it should not be possible with the video in the camera itself, that could be part of your problem.
As a footnote, I should add that Video Studio is currently not capable of producing AVCHD video using your camera's top bitrate of 24 Mbps. That only became part of the international AVCHD standard late last year, and Corel didn't include it in X4. (And in fact, it has even more recently been overtaken by a further increase in the international standard to 27 Mbps for 50/60p and 3D camcorders.) At most, VS can produce AVCHD at 18 Mbps (or 20 Mbps for some circumstances).
And of course it also produces standard definition mpeg-2 for DVDs.AVCHD Recording Modes (1080 59.94i) Specifications Detail:
HD-FH 1920 x 1080 @ 17Mbps
HD-FX 1920 x 1080 @ 24Mbps
HD-HQ 1440 x 1080 @ 9Mbps
HD-LP 1440 x 1080 @ 5Mbps
So although you say you used a USB cable, it would be useful to know step by step what you did, and what else you used, to capture the video. Did the camera come with its own software to transfer the video to computer, for example?
