Great breakdown of the phenomenon flagpole and may I be the first to say holy carp!

Just tested it myself too because it's very hard to believe but I see it too - the RGB channel values of partially transparent pixels changes when saved by X4 without using the Optimizer.

The same change definitely does not occur in X2. I'm sure someone can probably confirm that X3 gets it right too. This is pretty incredible. Ouch Corel... ouch! :-(

If you think reporting a problem here means Corel is aware of it, you're wrong. Apart from a couple of Corel employees who appear here every so often, this is a user to user web board run by volunteers. Corel only tends to take (some, little?) notice of the wish lists for the next version. Otherwise you have to report it directly, unless one of the aforementioned Corel employees actually posts and says he/she is elevating it for action back at HQ...

that seems a bit daft. having done a detailed analysis of the OP's bug on the previous page i kinda think i've done enough for corel.

there should be some mechanism by which someone, you probably can then highlight an issue for the attention of one of the corel staff.

I have not heard back from corel support again since I gave them the step by step process that achieves this error. Perhaps when I do will include the information here as it does explain it rather well, that is IF they still do not see it themselves.

Finally heard back from corel ... their next suggestion was to do a complete reinstall .... I have sent them the information and link to this thread ... fingers crossed they take note. If you guys were able to duplicate it then its NOT an install error.

ok now they want it reported officially so will try to do that .... if anyone else wishes to do so as well pls do ... perhaps there will be higher chances of them taking it serious if the volume is up on the problem.

in the short time that i have been a member of this forum i have to say that i am a little disappointed in their bug handling. it seems you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

That is absolutely horrific customer service. You've already reported the problem to them - how does it get more "official" than that.

The problem was definitely not there in X3!

I found this thread after noticing the problem independently myself. I just spent a couple hours debugging my own game code to see why it was no longer displaying monster images correctly only to realize it was because I used PSP to crop the transparent borders! Ruined an entire batch of renders which I will have to redo now  . At least I still have the source files... For someone who creates their art in PSP the damage of this bug can be huge because it is likely to go unnoticed for a long time while still rendering the end result unacceptable and unrepairable.

I consider this bug so severe that Corel ought to recall this product immediately to warn their customers.

this problem is really ticking me off ... I often dont finish a project the same day I start it ... so now for some reason ... I have that stupid ugly border and cant get rid of it ... saved the original file in psp format but for some reason its got that border and no matter what I do I keep getting it.

Thats it ... I refuse to continue to try to use something that is causing more harm to my work than helping it.

Open the .png optimiser.
Select 16.7 million Colours (24bit)
Click the Transparency tab and choose:
Alpha channel transparency .... and
Exisiting image or layer transparency.
Click OK.

By doing the above you will not have that horrible black line where the shadow should be and also the image, if it has gradients will be smoother.

Yes we found that work around but the point is one shouldnt have to use the png optimizer at all ... never have had to in previous versions ... this is something new to psp in version X4 only.

Edit to add* ... before I realized that X4 was doing this to my png files .. I had done some "hair" textures ... and now they all have that ugly white/grey border on the tips of the ends of the hair ... no amount of png optimizer now will remove that .. so those files are ruined ... and will require redoing .... this is what frustrates me sooo much!!!!

That's not true with PSP8. If you don't use the PNG Optimizer, you don't get any transparency at all. A message comes up saying that the image must be merged and flattened. I don't know when that changed but it was somewhere between PSP8 and X2.
