PNG problem in PSPX4
ok i've noticed when you go to save a PNG file you are left with a dirty great line round the item ,if you use the optimizer it goes ...What if you run scripts that create in PNG files and they all come out with these dirty grey lines ?? I use psp alot ,and this is one thing i have neve found on any of my previous versions and i started at the bottom version 7 ..Why all of a sudden has the PNG gpt this ugly line round it ?? and its even worse if you have applied drop shadow to the base image the whole of the shadow used turns juck grey ,this is so not proffesional to keep having to use an optimizer or having to go and use your prevoius versions due to this mistake ,I've tried changing to alpha channel and i then get a merged image ..Any other help on this terrible situation would be great ..
Apart from this its great, loads fast, less space on drive, everything opens fast ...and then a darm problem with the PNG ...why carn't everything run good for once ...
Rather upset Artist ..

Re: PNG problem in PSPX4
it looks like you have transparency issues.. it's difficult to say because the image you have posted is jpeg. be useful to see the .pspimage

Re: PNG problem in PSPX4
Just to clarify, you are referring to the PNG Optimizer that you can access via FILE > EXPORT > PNG Optimizer, right? Because I tried using that PNG Optimizer but I was not able recreate the problem, I'm sure the others will have a better explanation that I am. Also if you can provide us the exact steps/options that you performed that will also help us double-check on the issue.

I just applied this to one of my files and it cleared up the border immediately ..... is this a bug in the new version that every png file is going to have to be run thro the optimizer? And if so will this be fixed?

As far as I am aware, you are the only user to date to have this problem. I don't, for example. So it is difficult to call it a bug unless it can be replicated...

well i do see 2 of us so far lol
btw the line doesnt show up in the program for me only when i use the file on a 3d virtual world then u see the line ... (this version is first time its ever happened)
so you may not be aware its there
Here is a sample of before and after using the optimizer if there is anything I can do to help sort this I would be more than willing to help.

Re: PNG problem in PSPX4
i think it would be really really useful for us if you could show us a way we can replicate this issue.
for example could you upload the .pspimage file somewhere and then tell us what it's necessary to do in order to replicate the issue.
i use the png optimizer every day and have never seen this issue, i think in general the board is going to take some convincing. i fasted the same thing with a bug i wanted to report, a dozen people telling me it was how it was meant to behave. until i uploaded a video of it happening.

Re: PNG problem in PSPX4
Well its not even a .pspimage issue ... its anything that has transparency or in my case any png file. Here is what I do ....
1. open pspx4 ... go to edit tab
2. open png file
3. click save
4. view inworld on my avatar and voila .. the ugly white/grey line that wasnt there before
5. go back to psp and save using the png optimizer
6. reupload to avatar and voila .. line is gone
I have never used the optimizer before on any other version of psp .. so I find this sooo odd.
I do have email into corel and have had first reply which was to reset back to factory default settings .. did that .. made no diff. So waiting on further discussion.

Re: PNG problem in PSPX4
I don't have X3 or X4 but in PSP8 and X2, I ALWAYS have to use the PNG optimizer or I don't get a transparent background at all. Also, if I edit a PNG image, I have to save the changes through the optimizer or it will lose its transparency. I use transparent PNG files all the time so, to make using the optimizer more convenient, I've added the button to my toolbar. That saves me a couple of steps vs. going through the Save and Save As dialogs._Cara_ wrote: I have never used the optimizer before on any other version of psp .. so I find this sooo odd.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

now that is strange .. my first version was X2 that i became serious about using and I have always been able to straight save any png file and have never had an issue .... this really is odd

Re: PNG problem in PSPX4
He's right. I believe this is a bug. I think maybe nobody saw it because we all save png with the optimizer. but thinking back i have seen this in the wild now. it explains something...
anyway here is an image http://nigelcoldwell.co.uk/test/pngissue.png

the two images at the top are the same image, text with black(0,0,0) drop shadow, they are just saved in different ways, on the left using the default options and on the right using the optimizer 24bit colour and alpha channel transparency.
the images above are then show below on different backgrounds. as you can see the colouring has been changed the colour tends to white as the opacity tends to zero.
it is perhaps even more clear here http://nigelcoldwell.co.uk/test/pngerror2.png

it's the same pixel that the colour picker is showing in each half of the image. the colour from the black drop shadow should be black with differing opacity.
as far as i know saving png with the default options should be lossless, and has always been. this colour artefact seems like a simple coding error, transparency overflowing into saturation, typo, or whatever, but either way it is a BUG
edit: thinking about it it may be a corruption of the logic used for single colour transparency where it has to assume a background colour and a threshold in the event that the image contains partial transparency. but this is definitely not appropriate when saving with full transparency.
