several problems with X4

Post by heffekopp »

Hi guys,
I´m new in this forum (google is my friend ;-) and my english is not so good.

My first problem:
The graphite theme is absolutely not good for my eyes.
But I read, that there is no solution for this problem (I´m using PSP since version 7).

The second problem:
When I want to open a psp-file, there is no preview of all the files (in the attachement
the jpgs are only for sample, I have no psp-file here in the office).
I have about 100 psp-files with heads to fake some pics (my head with the body of some animals,
body builder and so on).

Is it possible, that I see the pics as a preview (not only when I mark one, but rather all of the pics
in the folder)?
I hope you know what I mean.
(I think, in some older versions I had to save it as "PSP12 compatible file" or so).
But I don´t want to change all files now.

The third problem:
I want to change the desktop of the programm (some tools in the toolbar for example, or some instructions).
That works great.
But when I shut down the computer and restart PSP, my configurized tasbar is away.

I hope you understand what I mean (especially my english) and can help me.

Thanks a lot for your answers.

--- unfortunately there the graphite settings is permanent on PSP X4.

--- Your 2nd and 3rd problem are related, you may want to set PSP as the default program for editing or viewing images. You can do that by clicking on FILE > PREFERENCES > FILE FORMAT ASSOCIATIONS.

You can also follow the steps from this KB http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... oto-Pro-X3

The third problem:
I want to change the desktop of the programm (some tools in the toolbar for example, or some instructions).
That works great.
But when I shut down the computer and restart PSP, my configurized tasbar is away.

--- if you are referring to PSP Toolbar this can be a problem with your workspace. You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

if the one that you are referring is the Taskbar of your Windows OS then the problem can be with the Windows Settings.
I'm sure the others will have additional suggestion.

Hi Heffekop

I hope my answers help you.

My first problem:
The graphite theme is absolutely not good for my eyes.
But I read, that there is no solution for this problem (I´m using PSP since version 7).

The new Service Pack 1 that could be out very soon will fix this. Users will be given a choice of several user interfaces from light, med to dark.

The second problem:
When I want to open a psp-file, there is no preview of all the files (in the attachement
the jpgs are only for sample, I have no psp-file here in the office).
I have about 100 psp-files with heads to fake some pics (my head with the body of some animals,
body builder and so on).

I'm not sure what you mean with this question. Open PSPX4 in Manage. Click open the Navigation panel, find the folder with your photographs and when you click on it, they open in the Organiser which is located at the bottom of your screen.

Is it possible, that I see the pics as a preview (not only when I mark one, but rather all of the pics
in the folder)?
I hope you know what I mean.
(I think, in some older versions I had to save it as "PSP12 compatible file" or so).
But I don´t want to change all files now.

PSPX4 will open all those files from PSPX2 and so on. Just remember when saving a file in PSPX4 to go to Options in the Save As dialogue window and choose PSPX12. Do this if you wish to open any of your files in older versions of PSP.

The third problem:
I want to change the desktop of the programm (some tools in the toolbar for example, or some instructions).
That works great.
But when I shut down the computer and restart PSP, my configurized tasbar is away.

When you have configured your palettes and toolbars, save the Workspace. However, I cannot guarantee it will reopen as you left it as I'm having major problems with PSPX4 remember my workspace and location of toolbars and context menus. We are hoping that the SP1 will fix the problems. Hang in!

Hello Abiel and trueblue,

thank you very much for your answers.
I will try this today evening.

@trueblue:
The preview problem:
In my pictures you will see the problem. (I used jpgs just for example)
In older versions, I saw the pics (miniatures) BEFORE click them.
Now I don´t see the pics (miniatures).

I don´t want to use the organiser.

"When you have configured your palettes and toolbars, save the Workspace"
Why did Corel changed this? In the older version I did not have to save!

Greets and have a nice weekend to you all.

1) For anyone confused as to what this person is talking about it's the age-old problem of the thumbnails in Windows Explorer for PSPImages are not showing up. All it shows is the document with the PSP Icon. You know what it is.

2) They haven't so much changed it so you have to save, but PSPX4 has shown issues in preserving changes. So by saving the workspace you can at least get the changes back quickly until this issue is resolved.

Aehm, why "age-old" problem?
I have this problem since version X4.
In versions 7 to X3 I saw the thumbnails.
And I mean not in the Windows Explorer, I mean when opening pics
in PSP.
In the pictures above is verion X3 (I have only the old version in the office).

You had mentioned when opening images you wanted to see the preview not only when you clicked on the image. That suggests the preview portion of the dialog works just fine but that in the directory view of the dialog you can't see them. That view in the dialog is Windows Explorer. If it's not working in Windows Explorer it's not working in that dialog.

And it has been seen in x2 and X3 and now in X4. Sure "age-old" was an exaggeration but it's not unheard of. In fact when X3 first came out it was one of the biggest issues.

Hmm, o.k.
I´m not 100% sure that you know what I mean (my english is not the best ;-)

When I want to select a psp-file (open it in PSP), in the versions 7 to X3,
I saw a thumbnail, and in version X4 I see only an icon.

Is there a solution for my problem?

(yesterday I tried to save the psp-files in X4, but nothing changed)

This is a windows problem, not PSP. You have your images to open in another program. Select PSPX4 to open images then you will see them all.

_Cara_ this post does not really related to this thread. Moreover, you already have a separate thread about your .png problem. So I would ask you not to double post as it can only cause confusion.

Good evening (at least here in The Netherlands),
I've the same problem with the thumbnails. When I explore my folders via PSPX4 I only see PSP-icons instead of thumbnails. The other kind of files (jpg) are always shown as thumbnails.
Everytime I start the pc I have to select PSPX4 for the pspimages to be shown as thumbnails in the explorer of PSPX4. There are no problems in the Windows7 Explorer; pspimages are always shown as thumbnails.
Why can't PSPX4 remember the selection for thumnail?

Greetings,
Mart
