I'm going to chime in on this subject...

On March 2nd, I started noticing my 12"x12" (3600x3600) 300 dpi JPEGs were opening at some ridiculously huge size and 72 dpi. How frustrating to say the least. I also noticed huge issues when resizing my 3600x3600 to a web size of 600x600. The quality of the image is resized is crazy horrible. I didn't change my process, I didn't change any settings... and I know the exact date that it happened because I use the program daily (I'm working on a 20 page project whose end result will be printed in hard copy, but all on the web, thus the need for two sized).

There's really nice, basic equation recognized by anyone dealing with images. It's simple math, really, that even I can do. It's how figure out size and resolution of an image... Why did PSP X4 all the sudden change the math on me without giving me the slightest clue what it is? I mean... yeah, I could try to calculate 33254545454254 x 452543534634634 x .72 but I suck at math! The time inputting the numbers into a calculator would be insane!

Frankly, I have printed some layouts, BUT I haven't compared the image quality to layouts pre-PSP-insanity. (and yes, I have SP1) I loved you, PSP X4... I loved you so... I kept you alive and useful in market being pwn'd by your competitor and this is my thanks?

I'm gonna add that when I take the original JPEG and resize it in understandable terms (and keep from being over 50 inches...) it is never really correct. 3600x3600 ends up a few inches smaller than it should be... sigh. My brain hurts...

I bet they will miraculously solve the problem in X5 and expect everyone to pay the ransom.

I am not getting any of what you guys are reporting.
I have X4 (and 3 and 3 an PSP8) with SP1.
1. I have taken an image that is 1333 x 2000 pixels and in a program called Irfanview changed the Resolution to 300 DPI. Then saved it to the desktop as version 2.
2. Reloading it into Irfanview shows in the Information that it is 300 DPI

3. I load it into PSPX4 and click the I button and it shows as 300 DPI same as a previous screen shot in X2

(I should point out here that in File -> Preferences-> Generan Program Preferences -> Units I have set it to 300 pixels per inch. )

4. I resize the image to 4 inches x 6 inches (300 DPI showing there as well) and save that to desktop as vers2resized.

5. Loading that image into Irfanview and X4 both show it as still 300 DPI and Both show it as 1200 x 1800 pixels.

So whats the problem?
Or is mine working correctly?

@hartpaul

It's a reported bug that PSPX4 SP 1 opens files, made outside of PSP, with 72dpi and increases the size.

In your case, you know that your original images is 4.443x6.665 inches (or 1333x2000 px) and 300dpi.

You open now the image in PSPX4, and your image becomes: 16.667x25.000 inches and 72dpi.
300:72=4.166
As you can the, the bug is that PSPX4 with SP 1 not only changes the dpi back to 72, it also multiply the size.
when you open your image.jpg
You change your image back to 300dpi and the new size 4x6 inches, which are 1200x1800px. PSPX4 saves the image correct.

Hi Simone
Still not seeing it.
Where you say
"You open now the image in PSPX4, and your image becomes: 16.667x25.000 inches and 72dpi.
300:72=4.166"
I am getting : 4 x 6 inches and 300 dpi. I have loaded, resized saved reloaded and the resolution remains at 300 dpi
Dpi remains at 300
Dpi remains at 300

I purchased mine online on 22nd March so do not know if Corel would make minor changes to the download version (not enough for a new Service Pack)
will redo at 200 Dpi and see if my X4 is locked at 300 or can vary, but as far as I can see I have no problems with that feature at all.
JUst did set at 200 Dpi and all functioning correctly .

@hartpaul

The bug I'm talking about is a bit tricky. If you create a document same size in PSPX4, then it opens fine. My sample file was made in Photoshop (the same happens with other editing programs like Photo-Paint). As soon as they come from outside, then this bug appears:

You have a file with a size of 1333x2000px or 4.6x6.6 inches and saved with 300dpi, created in another photo editing program.
Now, after opening this file in PSPX4, PSPX4 multiplies the size using the factor 4.166. The size increases to 16.667x25.000 inches and the resolution decreases to 72dpi.
You change the resolution to 300dpi and change the size to 4x6 inches.
After saving in PSPX4, it opens now correct in PSPX4.

As soon as it comes from PSPX4, then it's fine. If you save the file in another program and reo-open it in PSPX4, the size/dpi are again wrong.

Sorry for this bug. It's really a painful one if you don't work in pixels and 72dpi. Ah yes, it doesn't happen with pixels....

There haven't made changes in the download version. We all have the same version. There is a SP planned, but I can't say when it will come exactly. You know what I mean, you never know what changes have to be done in the the very end. I will definitely test the beta as soon as I get it.

No Simone It is not happening for me.

"You have a file with a size of 1333x2000px or 4.6x6.6 inches and saved with 300dpi, created in another photo editing program." ( Created in Irfanview from full size camera jpg and saved to my desktop)

"Now, after opening this file in PSPX4, PSPX4 multiplies the size using the factor 4.166. The size increases to 16.667x25.000 inches and the resolution decreases to 72dpi."
That is not happening with my program on XP.
This is what I am trying to tell you. The image (from Irfanview NOT from PSP) opens up and shows exactly as it was in Irfanview - PSP has not changed my image DPI from that set by another program.

"You change the resolution to 300dpi and change the size to 4x6 inches." ( I have not had to change my resolution)
"After saving in PSPX4, it opens now correct in PSPX4."

But I don't have to change anything in PSP - the resolution remains at 300 if I change only the pixel dimensions and the changes there are reflected in the inches size of the document based on 300 dpi as shown in my screen shot.

I have just now taken the image saved from Irfanview to the desktop , loaded it into Photoshop CS3 then resaved to the desktop then loaded it into X4 and Opening the resize dialog shows all as OK . The image is still showing at 300 dpi,(without me having to change it in PSP) if I set a pixel resize from 1333 x 2000 to 1200 x 1800 then the DPI is still at 300 and the inch size is 3.999 x 6.000. So if it is happening elsewhere there must be something else wrong.

Download Irfanview and do a save there of an image and see if you come up with different from mine.

Have also tested Paint and if I take that same Irfanview image load into Paint and then save it back to the desktop, the pixel dimensions remain the same but Paint (not PSP) has changed it to 96 DPI. It reads as 96 DPI in Irfanview and also in PSP X4 . Of course the pixel dimensions are unchanged but now with the DPI set to 92 the print dimensions are 13.89 x 20.83 and if I type in new pixel values of 1800 x 1200 it shows 12.497 x 18.750 which again is correct based on the DPI value embedded in the image info (not changed by PSP) .
I note also that the Exif info saved by Paint is not massacred as from PSP.

OK Simone - glad that Corel admits that the bug is not a figment of the imagination of some of us that have been experiencing the issue for some time. Was beginning to suspect that the problem was initiated by importation of images into PSP rather than when images were created by PSP. Fine! But the more important issue is "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?"

The new X4 update seems to have fixed the 72 dpi issue - my pics now show as 300 dpi. Yeah - took a while to get it fixed - but finally!

Don't want to be the bringer of bad tidings - but mine still shows as 72
